I like this one a lot. If you mute the instruments and remix this would make a fine acapella offering. Plenty of rhythm going on in the voices alone!

reminds me of the grateful dead.. I like it.. you started another song with the bass drum thump.. the mouth trumpet is always cool.. would have liked an instrument solo, but this way adds humor.. the mix sounds good to me.. nice warm sound.. probably could use a little sparkle.. maybe a little bassy, but not too much I guess.. very cool song again.. this one is stronger than your last post..

so that's just delay on the acoustic? pretty cool.......how do you go about deciding how much delay?

very clean recording......i like the acoustic sound.......

the only part i'd change would be the kick at the start....i'd probably have the acoustics start off solo, but that's just me.........

That "mouth trumpet" is becoming your trademark. I like this one a lot, especially the background vocals.

Has kind of a bouncy feel to it. Your vocal style is probably the most distinctive on this board and also your use of percussion is very distinctive. Very nice feel to this, great singing, and the mix sounds fine on this end.

Do you use fruit loops for all of your recordings? Your recordings have such a good volume on them...they are never distorted and the volumes all sound just right. This one is no exception.

I like it a lot!

:D

p.s. I'm still interested in getting those CD's when you're done with the second one. Let me know!

:D

Great accoustic guitar.

Somewhere between the bass and the backups, the lead vox get a little crowded.

Nicely done. Dig the mouth trumpet, actually, it struck me more like a mouth trombone in this one.

This one rocks!

Needs a little cut in the low bass compensated by an overall boost aimed at the mids.

Very, very nice acoustic guitar sound on this one. The bass was a Little heavy for the genre of music but didn't hurt my speakers so, I guess it's ok.

The vocals sounded well mixed and sung but a Little on the dry side.

Nice performance over all.

Cheers! :)

Ah... I love those dry vox.:)

I think I might turn the kick down a db or 2. It's a little too dominant.

Actually, I think it's a mouth trumpet with a *mute*...

It just occured to me that I'd like to hear Dobro do a cover of that old Cream song "Anyone For Tennis" (I think that's the title anyway - it's been awhile).

I love this one. One of my favorites of yours. Except for the kick's volume, everything sounds good.

Chris

jamal - the kick's from the Blue Jay Small Ambient package.

Zikes - yeah, I think acapella's possible too. But I've got two other acapella tunes on the album, and this one here's the opener, so...

B.SABBATH - thanks - you know, your global snapshot comments are really useful - I'm starting to 'read' them like I read my monitors or read a meter.

powderfinger - of course! Ditch the kick at the opening! Good idea - thank you. :) The delay I was talking about btw isn't a mixing effect, it's delay in terms of time and getting around to doing stuff - if I got stuff out as quickly as I would like to, it would often be less good. It's gotta sit around on the shelf like a bottle of wine sometimes.

boydrj - yeah, Fruity Loops for beats and synth stuff. Thanks for the thumbs up too!

Doug H - 'crowded', yeah, but I don't know what to do about that, except pan the b vocals a bit more and cut the bass. I'll try it.

dear Dr - thanks for the idea - I think the problem's running drums and bass against two acoustic guitars

Ghost of FM - yeah, thanks for the EQ feedback.

groucho - cheers for the feedback, I'll see to it. I heard 'Anyone for Tennis' about ten years ago once, but I forget it. It's off their first album, right? In terms of interesting music, I think Cream is just about my favorite 60s band. Cream in Britain and Hendrix in the US - the best of the lot. And yet, all I've got is Disraeli Gears and Wheels of Fire.

Smooth. I like your stuff more and more. This one is slicker and rootsier than most. No mix comments 'cause it all works.

Don't know why that beat always makes me think of "Sleeping Bag"...
(only about 1,000,000 songs start with a similar beat)... Hey, that's on topic! Adulterate on a Sleeping Bag ;)

Of course this is happier/goofier... nice song! :D Cool vocal overdubs. I like the overall acoustic feel of everything. IMO the
dryness/lack of 'verb works well here. Would like your snare sound
up about 1db. The kick drum sound -- too much low-mid, needs bigger
bottom end.

Really cool song... great outro licks!!

You're on a friggin' roll man. I was afraid this would sound all muffled because I've been working on stuff all day, but this sucker sounds nice and clear and punchy to me. Great writing. Great singing. Great fun.

I'm trying to bitch about something. I really am.

Screw it, sounds awesome to me. I didn't read the other posts, but any complaints were just someone busting your balls. LOL. (or maybe not, but I didn't hear anything I didn't like. :) )

Good job man. Nice and clean.

Tom

all good here man. Best kick drum on any island in the pacific.. Loved the arrangement and voices. Sam already said its a little less sparkly than the other stuff but still trademark..

The low mids are a bit hot overall, but it's mostly the bass stepping on that great kickdrum. Maybe a bit of ducking would do the trick.;)

The ballbuster:D

So anyway, I took on the comments in this thread and fiddled about with EQ for a while and then decided to chuck it all in the bin. Then I redid the bass part and what I learned was this: EQ in the mix is for minor adjustments. If you want bigger changes in the tune, retrack. Also, tone on the bass when tracking is ultra important. This thread steered me toward all of that - thank you for all the nudges.

I like it

About the only thing I would do is drop the harmony just a bit so the lead vocal is just a bit clearer.

Catchy. A couple of vocal misses on notes, but nothing too violent. Love the lip-trumpet/trombone thing! Gotta remember that one!

I could actually stand a little stronger guitar, myself. But hey, opinions are like... well, you know. Honestly though, it's almost TOO close to a capella right now. I, personally would like to hear the music a tad more, but it's just a niggle.

It's a really cool song. I enjoyed it. Very creative! Thanks.
