Your Best Angel REMIX

Here's a new one I've just finished up. It's been thru a few changes but I think I'm getting real close to done. Any mix or master suggestions would help. All acoustic instruments (and the vocals) were captured with a 57 in Cakewalk by Bandlab. First time using a SM57 on vocals. They cut thru pretty nice but gave me de-essing problems. Thanks for the listen and any crits , comments or suggestions. mark -Remix down the page-

That bump at 6K on the 57 is as if designed to bring out sibilance in vocals lol. I got a 57 recently and tried it on my guitar amp, but it sounds crappy. (The piezo on my guitar makes high frequencies unattractive, and the 57 compounds that and makes them ugly.)

Okay, I'm going to listen four times.

1 iPad: Good separation, balance and sound. Is that you singing? You sound younger than previous stuff. You taking viagra? Or is it just a matter of you singing differently on different tunes?

2 Earbuds: Immediately better sound, but a different frequency response - the guitar comes out nicely. Ordinarily, I'd want the vocal a taste louder in relation to the guitar, but the doubled vocal makes it all okay. Lesson learned. Drums could be louder.

3 Mixcube: A third frequency response - that backing guitar comes through more distinctly, and it's really nice. You want to make that happen in the real mix through monitors?

4 Monitors (KRK VXT8s): Wow! So big, and suddenly I can hear the lower end! Okay, that's an issue - I *didn't* hear much kick or bass at all on any of the previous three listens. Can you get the bass and kick heard on earbuds without turning them up? How would you even do that? Create a submix and boost 700 Hz for it?

Nice tune, Mark. Good work.

Dobro , that was a Fantastic evaluation ! Thanks for that. Yes , I sing quite a bit differently depending on the song , key, and how early in the morning I'm doing vocals. You Really got me thinking about better ways for evaluating my mixes. I normally just use my monitors and headphones on a laptop after uploading. I usually use Ozone master assistant for overall EQ suggestions and adjust them accordingly. I've got an alternate mix done , after I did a lot of work on the kick just to get it more on point. This morning I used earbuds , 2 sets of headphones and my monitors to get the kick punching better. It made quite a difference on the cheap earbud listen. I also did some mid/side EQ work on the master. I uploaded it to Sound Click just to listen for a difference. Now I need to go in and punch the bass guitar better . (if I can do it without getting muddy). I Really appreciate your time and help on this.. I'll post a remix/master in a few days . Thank You .. mark
