I made a bit of an impulse purchase last night and picked up a low hours ADAT XT to add to the blackface I have had for nearly 10 years (at a tenth of the price I paid for the blackface way back when, I might add)
Is there anything I should know about the XT other than the fact that it uses RCA connectors instead of 1/4" jacks? Any quirks or differences that set it apart from the blackface?
Thanks in advance:)

One that I can think of at the moment is the transport. If you're synching the two together, bear in mind the XT moves much faster...so make that the master machine. The blackface will synch up fine but it'll take longer to get to the synch point. The XT also claims it's a 18 bit machine, but that's neither here nor there as far as I know...but read the manual - you may not be able to play the tapes made on the XT in the blackface (vice-versa doesn't matter). Check that out. It's been a while since I've used ADATs (but I still have four ;) )

I've also heard that the signal phase is flipped 180 degrees on the first generation of the XT machines, so keep your XT tapes in your XT machine, and your blackface tapes in your blackface machine when tracking, mixing and backing-up tapes.

ummmmmmmm?

Why on earth would you want to buy one when you can have one for free???

You shut up Dave. What I do with multiple ADATs is my business! :D

Very good point....multiple ADATs are delicious.
In fact, I'll even buy the BRC.....assuming I get to run some recording sessions.

Sell me one for silly cheap imo
Well, I probably will be selling two of them, plus my BRC w/stand, but I haven't made the effort yet. ;) :D

I don't blame you Rick, as fond as we are of ADATs, we'd have a hard time letting go as well heh

I would do just the opposite - make the slower machine the master machine, otherwise you're always waiting around for the blackface to catch up.

But what about the 16 versus 20 bit thing? I'm confused about this..
