Hi folks,

I have an old Alesis 16 bit 8 track and am getting ready to record. I used to just bring the tape to my local studio and pay for the transfer, and mastering etc. to be done. Now it's time to cut out the middle man and do it on my own. What will I need to hook up to my PC? Also, are there any good substitute programs for pro tools. Appologies if this question has been dealt with 1000 times here.

Hi fj

Alesis makes a transfer card for the pc called Adat/Edit.
This will fly your eight tracks into the pc for editing and
back to the Adat if you need to. There are other cards that will handle Adat transfers, from other manufacturers as well...Aardvaark and M-audio are a couple.

If you just want to mixdown with outboard gear, do your
own homemastering and burn a cd, you might want to check
out the Alesis Masterlink, an all in one two track recorder,
with DSP and built in cd burner.

Hope this helps!

Mike
