I have a black face adat and i'm getting a Tascam TM-D1000 mixer this week. the tascam has the TDIF digital inputs, and i am going to get the tascam if-tad Lightpipe to TDIF converter. here is my (multi-faceted) question-

How will I be able to ensure word accurate sync? The TM-D1000 has a word clock out, but the ADAT does not have a word clock in. i've heard that the word clock can be transmitted along with the digital signal, will this be accurate in this instance? the ADAT manual said that the ADAT will read a 48K external signal if it is present, but does that mean it is present from an external audio source, or can I somehow sync it with the "sync" input? I guess what I'm asking is, "How do I sync these two jokers?"

Thanks in advance

Chris

Well, I'll let you know when I get mine all set up - hopefully pretty soon now... Have the same goodies, but no time yet to lash 'em all up. Should be fairly simple to designate master/slave for all digital operations
Good Luck with it !

I'm not home so I have to do this from memory.

Power up TM-D1000. Hold Shift key and Option key. Press enter key. Turn Data entry knob to System - enter. Turn Data knob to Masterclock -enter. Default is Internal 44.1K. This means TMD is Master. If you use TMD for Master, turn Data knob to Internal 48K for Black Face ADAT.
If you want to have Black Face Master, try turning Data knob to Word In 48K.
Whatever you choose, the last thing you do is power up IF-TAD. Do this as soon as you push enter on the TMD or you'll get a flashing warning.
Syncing is kind of an Art form. It's not always predictable.
