ADAT Optical IO to S/PDIF

Hi
I was lookign at getting the MOTU896HD over the Traveler because it has better converters but there are no S/PDIF jacks which I use for my reverb. But there is an ADAT Optical IO jack on the 896HD. Is there a converter cable I can buy to convent the ADAT jack to a S/PDIF connector?

If not I’d have to use the XLR jacks to bring my reverb unit into the MOTU which I believe would be more noisy...right?

The two protocols are imcompatible - spdif is stereo (2 channels), while adat is 8 channels.

While there are no cables that convert one to the other, there are hardware solutions that do it. They're not cheap, though.
 
just use the XLR... you should have very little noise (if any) in such a short balanced connection
 
Thats a good point!
But still I can't buy a converter IO system without at least one S/PDIF
It just seems so backwards.

Now I'm looking at possibly an RME Fireface 400

What I mean was, the outputs of my external Reverb rack processor can be routed either XLR or S/PDIF. I really liked using the S/PDIF because they are dead silent.
Because the Moto let me down on this I'm seriously looking into getting the RME Fireface800. The connections are amazing and the converters are supposed to be very good at that price range, I don't know though?

Lol, I meant the short description the website provided on the units, not YOUR description..... :D

What reverb unit are we talking here? In general, if we are dealing with any type of decent unit, it shouldn't be noisy, in gfact, if noise were being introduced, I would suspect the cable and my conversion first. If your conversion is an issue, replace that before getting a soundcard that inputs spdif, as that is a more fundamental piece of the puzzle.

I can't speak for everyone, but mot perople I know, including myself, use the standard XLR outputs from our effects.
