Just firing up the links again.
I think we've done about as much as we're going to do, for now at least.

Just listened to 4 and 6. I love this guy. This is good enough for Sirius Satellite coffee house channel, in fact better than a lot on there. This guy has talent, and you've made him sound great. Seriously, let us know when the CD is done, and I'll buy some copies. Awesome stuff.

Listened to Longshot and Hotel Room so far - they sound amazing! Not sure I have any creative input beyond (or even approaching) anything suggested by the experts here. I'm interested to know, though, how you recorded the strummed guitars. I have a beautiful sounding Maton electro-acoustic that I want to capture. Recording with my SM57 and SE2200a I don't really get it right. Maybe it's my room. Anyhow, if you could describe mics used and positioning and maybe even EQ/effects added, I'd be eternally grateful. Again, awesome work on these tracks. And I know what you mean about the vocalist - I have a friend who has the most amazing voice, but totally clams up when it comes to people hearing it!

Hey guys, thanks so much for that!
I have to admit I'm starting to become really happy with them myself so that's really reassuring.

I spent last night listening to reference tracks and realising that Pete's (this guy's) vocals are nowhere near as upfront and strong as the majority of vocals in commercial recordings, but I'm not sure if I want to or can do anything about it now.

I'm am pretty worried about making the mixes too thin though cos I did that last time, and with Pete's recordings that comes down to voice and guitar tone. What do you guys think about that? Is it lacking body at all?

Also, the timing in Hotel Room is driving me mental. Can someone tell me if it's just me before I rip it asunder?
Jonny, I'll PM you. I didn't do anything special but I'll describe it for ya.

Well if you think it's a bit thin Paul you'll have to go back and double track the guitar and vocals. Then all will be right with the world.

BTW, hopefully I should have more of this coming in. We used to spend ages recording and it never paid off, so instead we're going to do sessions like this every few months.

Just spend a fortnight (he works 9-5) on 4-6 songs, get em done, do what we can with em, and move on. :)

More work for Steenamaroo. :)

That sounds like a plan! My only concern would be that the tracks from one month to the other may sonically sound different -- what are your thoughts?

Oh yeah, they certainly will but I'm fine with that.
If anything I hope they improve.

I have no idea how successful this will be but the idea is to have a short lifespan on each session.

Like, we set a release date, say 3 weeks from now. Plan as much airtime/promotion/as many gigs as we can to coincide.

We get what we can from the current tracks, then when interest is going down a new cd is coming out.

I suppose the target would be to gain X fans and pay for the production. Living the dream huh? :p

Final checks tonight guys!
Thanks for all the advice so far.

Click the link for the full playlist in order. I can't figure out how to embed that.

Perfect Paul!

Have you turned the volume down on these?

The opposite, but yeah.

Anything I posted up before had the master cranked just so it was in a reasonable listening ballpark for you guys.
The soundcloud links are the actual mixing level.

Well then it's official - my hearing is screwed.

Who have you chosen to do the mastering?

lol,Your hearing's fine. These are quieter.
I've sent them off to Tom to get his advice.

I duno the procedures but I figured it was sensible to let him listen through before committing, If he has time of course.

It's actually kinda nerveracking, lol. There's a potential to have your bubble burst by someone you can't really argue with.

Thanks I just went through 20 Qtips looking for wax build up.

I'm sure that he'll like the tracks and will be able to work with them.

You know the rule Henry. Nothing smaller than the elbow goes in the ear!!!

Cheers for that. I'll let you know how we go.

Well last time I got my elbow stuck! At least my brain stopped itching.
