acoustic pickup problem

i have a slight problem with my tanglewood

i have noticed that the high e string doesn't pickup through the p.a/amp as loud as the rest of the strings. could this just be an e.q problem?

the bridge is coming slightly unglued from the body so this might also be causing the problem. how does one go about un-glueing the bridge completely then re-glueing. whats the best glue to use?

I did a photo essay on just that subject a while back. For some reason the images no longer seem to be there. Not sure if thats my end or here as I can't edit that thread anymore.

In short it isn't an easy task. Really a job for a luthier and a good one at that. You'll need to get the bridge done before you look into the pickup.

It got me wondering: Has anyone ever tried installing a bridge "through" the top with a backing plate and some type of mechanical fastening, pins or dowels or some such? With or without glue. Or oversized and inserted through a cutout from underneath. Would it kill the resonance or create some other issues?

Traditionally a bridge has a bridge plate under the soundbaord that is glued to the underside of the soundbaord. It normally fits tight between the braces and acts as a support strengthening that area. Replacing the bidge plate is a real pain. They do wear as a result of the string ball and bridge pins pulling into it. You can do repairs to them. The whole thing isd crucial to the finished tone.

As to a bridge through the top? Not that I've seen and it wouldn't really work that well. The bridge, saddle pins and bridge plate act as a single mass transferring the vibration from the string. You need a good tight and well balanced unit to drive the top properly. Ditto with pins or dowels. Some cheaper guitars have used bolts in the past. I don't like them but they work. For me they add too much mass that isn't needed and locally as well.

Hi Mutt! I cannot provide you with access to edit function for just one post - it's all or nothing! I propose you send me the links to test out and the post you want them embedded and I will check it out....

Chater-la, I think I've isolated the problem. I had a look at the original post by using the quote function. All the image links are at a server I now have a redirect on it so the images wont load. I've moved then to another domain and I'll PM you the edit required on the image link which should bring them back up again.
