Acoustic dynamics?

Hey guys I was wondering if I could borrow your collective aural genius. Here's an original composition I was working on and I'm kinda unsure about the dynamics of the acoustic guitar. I'm ebarassed to say that barre chords are still tricky after 6 years! I was thinking about re-tracking the acoustic in sections with a capo at certain parts to keep things nice and clear...of course if you guys give it the okay, I'll save myself the trouble!

It's the one called 'Test Mix'.

Thanks chaps!

I think it sounds pretty good. It's fairly clean, and has some personality. Nice tune.

Sounds pretty good, but the finger slides are kind of distracting. Maybe its just me, but it seems like theyre more prominent than maybe they should be. The acoustic has a decent tone though. Sounds pretty nice. The harmonica is a nice touch but its way too loud. All in all it sounds pretty good. :)

I really like it Tele. Acoustic guitar sounds real nice. Wish I could get a tone that good.

The chord progression along with the strings sounds great.

I agree with Greg about the harmonica part. Sounded good for the most part, but some parts not so good, I would work on that.

Otherwise, sounds very good. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Danny!!! The guitar tone is down to the Martin I guess, I can't wait for my MSH2s to get here to try a matched pair of SDCs.

Thanks Greg, what you said about the finger slide was my worry too. It uses alot of open chords which resonate a bit...but it can make it sound kinda sloppy.

The chords are derivatives of E, B and A

xx2100, xx9800, xx7600

So when you slide up it does make that sound....I have put new strings on yesterday but I'm not sure what to do....

Oh and the harmonica will be fixed, nothing has been mixed as such yet.

The gtr's in tune and in the pocket with a balanced sound in the mix. What can be better than that?

Maybe the gtr could come up a bit.

I think it sounds pretty good. I don't think any nits warrant a rerecord.

Uh Pocket?? Haha. You don't think the natural pick sounds are worth retracking over? Your word is law on this Tim...so I'll do as you say.

The guitar sounds nice to my ears, a little back in the mix on my system though. The synth sound is nice and thick too. I think it'd be cool if you expanded on the harmonica part some (bring it down in volume too) or maybe bring it in earlier. Overall good sounds, acoustic sounds good

I liked it......do you use a sustain pedal on your midi setup? If not...you may want to think about getting one ...it will smooth out the chord changes a lot on the strings. Anyway...very cool...keep up the good work!

I think the changes suck because the vsti program isn't the greatest. I'm thinking of investing in Halion. Thanks though, once I'm happy with the guitar I'll sort out the rest.

The guitar part is well played. Most of the instruments in there have a full, orchestral sort of sound, with lots of reverb and chorus sounding effects. The guitar doesn't have quite the same sound. Sounds kinda like it was recorded in a different studio. And, there's the aforementioned finger zips.

I might take some verb off the synths....I dont have that many samples to play with though.

Really nice piece of music. I can hear melodies all through the piece. Hope you plan on putting lyrics to this one.

I wouldn't worry to much about the guitar squeaks. It's just the nature of the beast. If you find them to much, you can minimize them, but I don't think you need to re record the guitar.

Thanks alot man...hopefully the singer has done his homework!!! I'm glad you like it as a piece of music, that means alot, I havn't a huge musical background...I basically wanted to sound like Van Morrison!
