I know this should probably be placed in the Sonic Foundry forum but that forum is dead and no one vists it so I am hoping someone here can answer my question. I am very new at recording and even newer at using ACID 4 (or any software to do recording).

I have the basics (and i do mean basics) down for recording tracks etc. I can even put effects on the tracks and do pitch shifts, etc. But what I cant do seems VERY easy and simple but cant figure it out from playing with it or looking in the HELP section.

I record a vocal track and mess up the chorus. Instead of re-recording the entire track, I want to keep the verses and just record another track for the chorus. I successfully record the new track that has the chorus only. Now all I want to do is copy and paste that chorus up into the original track replacing the old chorus (that I messed up). Everytime I try it in the Chopper or outside the chopper the effect is the same. It copies it fine, but pastes the selected section in the SAME TRACK. I want to paste it into a different track. Is this possible with ACID 4?

I have cool edit 2, adobe audition and vegas 4 I can start from scratch and try to learn it, but I would think you could do this basic task in ACID 4.

Anyone?

Thanks...

I don't use Acid, but it seems like all of them should function about the same. Can't you cut out the old chorus and Autodrop(overdub) the new part?

Yea I would think they would operate the same also. Do you mean cut out the chorus and then resing the chorus over top of it? I am not sure if this can be done, maybe...but I already have the chorus i want to use on another track...seems like I could use it :(

I'm not so sure that ACID is designed to edit the source files, but I'm not sure.

There is no limit the number of tracks that you can have in ACID, so if I were you, I would leave the alternate vocal as a separate track, then do a fade and and fade out between the two tracks.

So fade out on old chorus and fade in on new chorus...you get the point.

In my version of ACID, you can highlight a track, right-click, then choose "volume" (I think that's right). A line appears on the sound file, you can make new points and set up a fade in and fade out.

Hope that helps...

Either that or just cut out the old chorus on say track 1 and leave the chorus of let's say track 2. When you play it...it should be the "good" chorus of track 2 the one sounding.

When you do the cutting just right, then what you do is "solo" the 2 vocal tracks and there's a selection on the menu's called "render to new track" or "render track." When you do this it will merge both tracks into 1. The programs leaves the original track 1 and 2 in place, so you would have to manually remove them from the project.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the replies.

I dont see the fad out / fade in option smtCharlie, and actually wanted to do exactly what bigJ has suggested but I do not recall seeing where I can combine the tracks into 1. This is what I wanted to accomplish!

I am just drinking my morning coffee and will fire up acid in a bit and poke around to see if I can find the render new track option and test it.

Also, when I finished my first test song with all of the tracks, I just went up to one of the menus and chose some option that took the song and converted it into a .wav file. Is this the best / only option? It was like 51 MB (huge) and I ultimately downloaded a program to convert wav files to mp3s which resulted in a 4.9 MB file (much better) :)

Thanks again ~
