does anyone out there know of any reasonably accurate monitors that won't kill my wallet? i could afford a few hundred bucks, but that's about it...

any responses are greatly appreciated...
jon.

Yorkville YSM-1's and Tannoy Proto J's come to mind.....both are less than $200/pr but youll need an amp to power them.....

How do you like the sp-5b's? My guitar center has all of it's monitor's not hooked up and can't find anyone to set them up for me. I've read many conflicting review's too, where some say they sound boxy and other's say they compare to monitor's near twice the value. Guess I'll have to search some far off shop that has them hooked up and A/B them.

I just bought a pair of the SP-5B's
For the money ($300.00/pr) they sounded the best of anything in their price range.

It comes down to personal taste, and available funds.

Unfortunately there is no such thing as great, cheap monitors. But you can get fairly decent ones for a couple hundred bucks. Some have been mentioned here already. I got the Yorkville YSM1P powered monitors for about $450.00. I like em.

I simply got what I could afford. They are far better then what I was using. They lack a little in the bass department due to a 5"cone, but they do just fine for me. I dont need to be blasted anyway.

Thanks for the info everyone. I'm probably in the "I simply got what I could afford" category too.

The SP-8B's are great. I picked up a pair from MF for under $300. Not sure if they are still running the special. However, I think lots of places are blowing out the SP-5B's for a sweet price. Check them out you wont be disapointed.

Thanks for the advice Shane. I hope they are blowing them out now. That would be excellent timing.
Keep Rockin.......Joe Recorder :D
