In about a week and a half I will be hooking up my MQ3 Pre and my FMR Really Nice Compressor to my Aardvark Q10.

I am looking for any advise, guidance, suggestions, experiences from users who have used either the meek or the rnc with a Q10.

Here is the quick plan.

MEEK PRE:
Plug my Vocal Mic directly into the Meek then use 1/4 to 1/4 inch patch from the Meek into the front of the Q10, likely channel 5-8 (one that does not have phantom power already)

?? Two outs on the Meek, are they identical? Why are there two? Which should I use?

FMR RNC:
Use Y cable (TRS to two 1/4inch phono plugs) from the insert on back of Q10 to the Left (or mono) IN on the RNC and back from the Left (or Mono) OUT

?? If I have matched mics recording the same source (acoustic guitar, drum overheads, drum room mics) can I take those two channels from the Q10 inserts each to one of the INs on the RNC (Channel one to Left, Channel two to Right)?

Any cautions, concerns or thoughts on my plans?

Thanks in advance.

Jim

If your goal is to use the RNC as a peak limiter before the sound card I would go Meek - RNC - Aardvark and just keep it simple.

Actually, I think I will be able to use the RNC as a peak limiter through the use of the inserts on the back of the Q10.

The Meek should be able to limit it's own peaks with it's built in compressor... I will likely use that on occasion to get a sound different from the clean Q10 preamp sound.

Thanks for the reply.

Jim,

Did the RNC with Q10 inserts work for you? I'm mulling over an RNC for my Q10 setup.

Yeah, really well. I think since I am still getting used to using a compressor I wind up using it almost too lightly, not at all like an effect.

I got them for piece of mind to control peaks during tracking and they have worked perfectly.

The Meek is interesting, you can really really hear it. I feel like it is doing more, but I think it is just that I can hear it more than the rnc.

If I only could have one, it would be the rnc.

Hope that helps.

Jim

I've been thinking about the RNC specifically for voice with either my AT4040 or V67M through one of my Q10 inserts.

I have a Rane compressor for electric bass, but don't use it yet. Never been into gadgets or pedals for live performances.
