I ordered an upgrade from Cubase SE to Cubase SL, and I got it from Steinberg today, or so I thought. So I open the box, and there inside are a "Getting Started" manual, a registration card, registration instructions, authorization codes for Cubase SL and the demo version of "Hypersonic", and separate installation CDs for Mac and PC. That is it, nothing else. I have a PC, so I put in the appropriate CD, install the software, and restart my computer.
I go to start up the product, and I get an error message saying, "No Protection Key found." Now, I understand the concept of a key dongle. There was one on the copy of Logic Audio I had almost ten years ago on my old Mac, so I know what one is, BUT THERE WAS NOT ONE IN THE BOX.
Add to this the fact that two separate emails requesting information on the status of my order of this upgrade went unanswered, and I am getting very, very upset with Steinberg. If this is the kind of customer service they provide, I am beginning to understand why they are in second place to Digidesign. Don't get me wrong, I don't like the idea of using anything by MOA, but this is unacceptable. One hopes they have the good sense to respond to the email I sent tonight, regarding the missing key, by tomorrow.
