A Songwriter Greg should Study

... nothing but some lame guy on a dance floor talking to a girl who looks at the floor instead of him. I mean I've seen that scene in every TV show that ever was, it's a tired idea and tired lyric.

First off....the song has NOTHING to do with some guy on a dance floor (so much for your impeccable interpretations)....but then you wouldn't know that since you only got to hear about 30 seconds of the song, and of all the songs there, you picked the absolute slowest, low-key ballad, and then criticize that it has "no life".

The fact that you think you can criticize my lyrics after I saw the kind of lyrics you write....is pretty fucking hilarious! :laughings:

You don't even see that your songs are SO canned and copycat shit...that it's no wonder you're upset that I didn't bow down and worship Willie Niles. You're just trying to mimic that worn out Americana/Roots style....which makes it that much more funnier when you talk about "originality".
There is NO originality in your stuff. I've heard that same kind of shit for the last 30 years come and go...which is why I say Willie Niles is just another copycat...but at least he's pretty good at it (as I already said).....but your attempts to copycat are lame at best, so please, don't try and critique my on the basis of a few lines of lyrics you pulled out of a 30 second clip from an old song I wrote about 15 years ago, and recorded about 8-9 years ago.

I've written better stuff and thrown it out than what you've got going on....and that's not me just saying so to get at you.
On the one hand, you said even a basic 3 chord song can be great....but now you try and cop some "lofty" attitude about your stuff. Gimme a break....you're really just pissed at your own shortcomings, and just taking it out on everyone else.

AFA the song quality of that old tune....that was stuff I recorded right after I got my new studio set up after I moved.....lots of new gear, lots of new toys, new setup...and most of those first recordings were the experiments that let me dial everything in.
The stuff I've done in the last few years in my studio is miles ahead. I was almost going to post a couple of newer songs, but I don't need to prove shit to you because I know what I have and what I've recorded in the last couple of years...and I also know that you got nothing more than what you posted.
The funny thing is....you said those songs of yours were things that "went by the wayside"...yet the uploads were all done on February 4th....so when did they go by the wayside....yesterday??? :D

Just repeat what I said, thats all you got. Whatever, if you think your songs are better crafted than mine, good for you.

Waiter.... Check please!

Let's see.....

First you get into it with Greg and some other folks in a few other threads....then you start a thread just to keep attacking Greg...then you attack me and Dogbreath for disagreeing with you, and you even give bouldersoundguy some shit....
...man, your ego is only exceeded by your lack of originality.

Anyone that makes busy attacking people left and right who don't agree with him or like his "genius"...is about as unoriginal as you can get.
For most people, that shit died off back in 5th grade when someone hides their play action hero and they cry about it....but I guess you must still be growing up, and you haven't figured out how to deal with rejection, loss or disagreement.

So now, go find your Ken doll and quietly play with yourself.....

Whatever, if you think your songs are better crafted than mine, good for you.

Dude...I heard your best stuff, that's all you got....you haven't heard mine. :p

I'll get the check, you leave the tip....you're obviously still living that "starving musician" lifestyle....maybe you can write a song about that in the style of Willie Niles or Dylan or Woody...

Considering I don't really care much about lyrics, this thread is hilarious.

I think this thread is hilarious even if I did care about lyrics.

Barry c, since you seem far more focused on songwriting rather than recording, have you considered going to a songwriter's community and interacting with them? I used to go to Muse's Muse a few years back, it was pretty cool. You'd probably enjoy the more songwriting-oriented focus more.

I came here to get some recording tips, I never got a straight answer, I got stupid answers like "well if your room treatment is not good, then your preamp wont matter" Oh, so instead of partaking in the home recording boom, I must make a studio out of my apartment.

Anyway, im not really interested in talking about songwriting here, I just saw some wrong info being posted, and I dont like to see that.

I dont feel like spending 5 grand for another ep like I did last time, I need to do it at home, I got work if I can get respectable recordings.

But I should be moving on

I checked out 1/2 a doz utub vids.
His tunes, arrangements and recordings are good but I'm not fussed on the New York promo/eulogy lyrics.
He seems to have lots of inside stories but is way too positive/a nice guy to do dirt or he's a tad psychofantic.
"...God bless Lou Reed..." is a bit of a blerkie statement.
I'd have to listen more before deciding he was worth spending money on.

That stupid Gangnam shit has over 1 billion views. Wait, almost 2 billion!

I haven't listened to it yet, I saw it though, thought it was cute, have to listen to it!!!:drunk:

I wanna say she's cute but she might be 11 years old, so I won't.

The Asian girls all have that young look....she could be in her 30s. :D

So Greg....how are you coming along with the Willie Nile songwritting course that Barry C wanted you to take?

:)
