A Songwriter Greg should Study

Here is a guy, one of my favorite artists/songwriters of all time, and Ive only known about him a few years. Found him one day on cdbaby, by serendipty, and been a huge fan ever since. he's never been a huge star, but easily should be, his career was halted due to illness. His songs have a piece of every rock/pop songs you have ever heard since elvis, right up to modern.

A true craftsmen, why he is not a major star I dont know, but he writes alot of songs that are near punk, but much better written.

here is some of his work. his new album is called american ride which is more like a Bob Dylan song, but this is how you do it, I think his drummer writes some lyrics too. Always great song titles, never boring. if there is such a thing as a rock master, it's him! and the guy is in his mid 60's!

I have kicked your ass in every argument, you know it, I know, everyone else knows it, I even show you how a punk rocker can be good writer, i even showed you that YOU know something about craft.

All your windbagged approach has shown is that you think you know everything, when you know chit, and when you are proven wrong, you say "i dont care" You havent backed up any of your claims with anything useful, I have DESTROYED you in all debates.

Willie's not that unknown...but he's too much of a Dylan/Springsteen sound-a-like for me to get excited about anything he's written/recorded. I'm not hearing any real originality there....but he does it well, so at least that's something.

I don't ever try to sound like anyone specifc when I write or record...oh and thanks for listening, but lets not make this about me. :)

You can post up NY Times or whatever....I'm just saying he's a Dylan/Springsteen knock-off, and not just by a little....so I don't see much originality in that.

did you know dylan knocked off woodie guthrie?

did you know nothing you can name is original? Stop looking for ways to knock, the guy is a great songwriter, period.

Originality doesnt make it good either, I havent heard anything original in my life

Sure, Dylan got influenced by Woodie....but he doesn't really sound like Woodie, especially not for a long time now....and Springsteen doesn't really sound like Dylan, even though there may be style similarities.

You're a little confused.
Similarity in style is one thing....you can have that and still have originality. When you simply sound like someone else....ain't much originality in that.

Since you insist on making this about me....and you obviously feel I have no originality....then tell me who does my music sound like?

Your music sounds like a guy doing it for fun, in his spare time, as a hobby. it sounds like every guy on soundclick I have ever heard.
Not knocking you, but your knocking a a major talent in the songwriting world with your comments. were talking about songwriting here

Bruce doesnt sound like dylan? are you aware of his music? he was billed as the NEW dylan, he changed his style, but cmon everything from the lyrics to the delivery is DYLAN, and he still returns to that style

"Sounding like somebody else" is not binary. It's a matter of degree and opinion. There is no right answer so debates can never be resolved. In my opinion barry c sounds like an idiot (and I don't mean Iggy).
