Not Just Anutha Brutha
A lil, jazz jammy put together just to find out if I've finally learned how to convert wav's and c/d's to mp.3

Couldn't think of a name so I simply call it "Just Q-ism"

some different horn arranging..for sure. and some rhythmic stuff pulling against each other. Lots of stuff trying to happen at the same time. I think a strong backbone would help this lil idea of yours. nice however....

ditch the buzz at the beginning of the mp3 file....and watch those pesky volume levels on the keys at times.

I check out the Just Q-ism. It's the first thing I've heard of yours and, after so many of your posts, I was excited to hear what you do.

It's a fun arrangement. They way you refer to it, you make it sound like you just did it as a little fun exploration of your capabilities. I do that myself sometimes. You're definitely an artist caught up in the recording game like me...

Now, I gotta question for you. I'm strictly audio in terms of recording (mostly because I don't own keys and don't have the patience to sequence using a computer keyboard or mouse) so how much of this jammy is midi?

I'm still getting acquainted with how much can be done with midi these days. I'm constantly amazed at the advancements engineers are making with the soundfonts and that. Anyway, I'm just curious. good bassline too!

Thx mxmkr 4 the advice!

Stone-cold piano, wassup!
Horns are of course synth. I'm running an Alesis QS6 thru a Roland XV30 sound module for brass, tenor sax lead and Rhodes
accompaniment. Bass & rhythm gits performed by me as well as my wack-@ss organ solo, played on a Yammy. No midi or sequencing was used for this as the purpose was to learn file conversion. Not much effort put forth as I wanted just to throw sumthin' out there!
Thx!

My brother.........I've got to play on something like this. The Crusaders in the house. If I put a couple of real horns in with the synth trumpets....I garuntee you that it'll hide the "synthy" quality of the brass. Please PM me......very cool.....

Nice little jam Q.I hope you take Lt. Bob up on his offer to play on this. This song would smoke with some of his treal horn playing on it.

I love this type of stuff.....jazz/funk all the way.It would sound cool with some gap band vocals on top settin that mother off.

I like the melody of the horns.Let Lt. Bob play some real horns on this tune man!

I guess you finally figured out how to make the mp3's huh?:DI still have that other jam you uploaded the other night called "recording while drunk".:DDo you even remember posting that tune man?

p.s. is that an Alesis SR-16 drum machine?I have one and that beat sounds real familiar.

I liked this. It's totally *not* what I normally listen to, but it sounded pretty good - nice groove, and the lead sax sound was pretty good for MIDI, apart from the long held notes.

There's quite a lot of hiss/noise on this. In Cool Edit 2000 I used the noise at the beginning to create a "noise profile", then ran the noise reduction process - it made a big improvement. I think there are loads of other Wave editors and/or plugins that can do the same job.

The drums sound a bit "brittle" - maybe a wee bit too bright? Or the sounds might even be clipping slightly? Someone with better ears would be able to explain better! ;)

Please please please take Lt. Bob up on his offer! And listen to Guernica's recent track with Bob playing sax on it, if you haven't already - wow!

Cheers

Very cool stuff Mr.Q! I realy dig the arrangement. The horns were a little too synth sounding for me, those parts would sound great with some real brass. But the drums don't bother me, they're pretty damn cool. You're quite a bass player too, that's a groovy bassline. Really enjoyed it, fun listen! :D

Q brotha! Get witht the Lieutenaunt! That would be kick ass!!

finally!

very cool Mr.Q! really sweet bass playing..

Yeah it would be great to hear Lt. Bob build up a horn section..

As far as this version goes though, I actually didn't think the horns sounded too bad... I kinda liked them except for some of the held notes.. @2:15, that solo got a bit loud in a few spots, but not too bad at all.. I have a QS6.1 and a Roland XP-30.. I plan on picking up a new XV-5050 sound module now that they're out..

I enjoyed this.. see above icon! :D

keep em comin'!

Nice jam Q!!

Great bass play, not crazy about the synth horns, but you play what you got.

Your songs allways have a happy air to them.

Great work!!

Mr 2Q,

very good recording......the bass playing rocks!!!!!......this tune is way cool....i do agree with mixmkr about about the amount of things happening at once, fighting for attention....maybe mute tracks here and there and only let one element take the ficus at a time......

also, id like to vote "yes" on letting Lt. Bob throw down some dirty south sax lines for this....

WOW
.....man this cool stuff. Great bass playin man.....GREAT! I dug the groove, and the perfomance was perfect.
I was also impressed w/ how good those hornsamples sound. Re: the LT., man...... you are ripping yourself off if you dont take him up. He would sit in this real nice.
This is great stuff man, ........its a bass players heaven.

...cant wait to hear more!

G .........and a BIG 5 stars!!!!!

QMan-
I've got my panama hat cocked low over my brow as I stroll South Beach groovin on this number! People are all starin' at me, sayin' "Who's that funky white boy, and where did he get all that groove?" Mingus meets Monk!
Thanks for the tune.

Bob

Very nice, brutha!

I'm listening in comp. speakers, so I'm looking forward to listen for the bass playing, but I liked the horns even though they are played in a keyboard.

I agree with someone who said that It's a bit cluttered instrument-wise.

Cool, brutha!
