People are no damned good
Imagine if you would a home town girl who's made the big time and then runs across a chubby, bowling shirt wearing, receding hairline geek swigging on a long neck. Let me know what you think. I'll give you the rest of the story after the lyrics.

Don’t You Recognize Me

Hey, hey Baby, don’t you recognize me
We used to have such fun
Hey, hey Baby, don’t you recognize me
You said I was the one
Now you smile a crooked smile
Confusion in your eyes
Hey, hey Baby, don’t you recognize me
I used to be your guy

Hey, hey Baby, don’t you recognize me
We used to have such times
Hey, hey Baby, don’t you recognize me
I used to call you mine
Now my jokes put you to sleep
And you won’t hold my hand
Hey, hey Baby, don’t you recognize me
I used to be your man

Oh I know you’ve got a lot of fans
Too many to recall
But Babe I was your number one man
Don’t you recognize me at all

Hey, hey Baby, don’t you recognize me
If you do please let me know
Hey, hey Baby, don’t you recognize me
Please don’t tell me no
You may not remember me
But I remember you
Hey, hey Baby, don’t you recognize me
I’m the man who loves you true

The rest of the story: My wife had brain surgery about 3 months ago, and meningitis as a complication after that. Throughout much of her early recovery she was pretty much comatose, didn't know who or what or where she was even when she was conscious. I didn't need sad and maudlin, so this is what came out of it. She does recognize me now, thanks for asking, but she hasn't yet progressed to where she can put two coherent paragraphs together. The docs say another few months and she should be back to normal.

Wow deep stuff!

I'd like to start by saying I'm really no expert at this, but just figured that I really appreciate any feedback on stuff I post, so I'm sure you feel the same.

The line ' we use to have such times' ... I know what you mean, but the lyrics don't quite make sense, how about; 'we used to share good times' or 'remember sharing such good times' (you'd have to sing the 'remember' at double speed).

Other than that I think it's a real powerful and emotive set of lyrics. Can imagine the music video for this in my head - I think songs like this from the heart always turn out the best.

Sorry I can't be of more help mate - would be good to hear a recording of the song if you've got the music?
