This is actually not really a helpful tip, but…if you work alone and want to find creative ways to test your skills at troubleshooting issues with your analog multitrack setup, here’s a couple ideas:
1. Don’t test the snakes before you plug them up. Just grab them from that box you can’t remember where they came from, and just live on the wild side and assume they work. Hint: they don’t. At least not completely. But just enough that it takes you awhile to come to the ideation maybe they don’t.
2. Wire the patchbay after beer whatever-is-up-there for you.
These two steps alone will give you more WTF moments the next day when you power everything up and start running things through their paces.
