I am new to this site.
Please forgive me if I am asking this question in the wrong place.
I am hoping that someone here at HomeRecording.com can help.
My friend and I have begun to record some songs we wrote.
The tascam da-38 was working fine; recording perfectly.
When the "delay" function was engaged it would not disengage.
The word "delay" remains in the display window and the unit will no longer record.
Any suggestions about how to fix this problem would be appreciated.
Thank you, members.

Try the Shift button then the Delay button. When the Shift LED is lit you should be able to turn Delay on and off.

Thank you Boulder Sound Guy.
We will give that a try and let you know.

Thank you for the suggestion Boulder Sound Guy.
Unfortunately, it did not work.
Followed your direction but the "delay" remains engaged.
Perhaps it is time for a technician, if one can be found.
My friend is losing patience with the Tascam and digital recorders in general.
He's talking about trashing the Tascam and getting a professional quality reel to reel.
Any further suggestions from you or other community members would be appreciated.
Thank you

I may be able to plug in a DA38 stored at a studio I work in and figure it out. Sometimes the controls can be hard to decipher. I bet you can get out of that mode with the right button pushing. You may need to zero out the delays applied to the tracks, which you do by selecting the track, pressing and holding the up button then pressing the down button.

There could be a problem with the machine that requires maintenance or repair, but I doubt it. Usually the only thing that needs attention is the head replacement every 600 hours. There's a combination of buttons you can press when powering up that will tell you the head hours.

An open reel recording is going to require even more maintenance than the DA38. I don't think that's a solution. A computer based setup would be a better option, and it would sound better than the DA38.

Thank you for your response Sir. We were working on track two when the problem began. We followed you direction for zeroing out the delays on track two -selecting track two, pressing and holding the up button then pressing the down button. Then we repeated your original direction -try the Shift button then the Delay button. When the Shift LED is lit you should be able to turn Delay on and off. Still no success. I know very little about high-end audio recording equipment Sir but I have a feeling this DA38 is still a very good recorder. As you say, the right series of button pushing will have this machine recording perfectly again. Thank you very much for you help Boulder Sound Guy. If you think of any sequence of button pushing that might help, that too would be greatly appreciated. My friend agrees with you Sir. The controls on this machine can be very hard to decipher.
