Although this is not the finale mastered version, I played around with it in Wavelab 3.0 a little. Another song from Porterhouse. Did I mention that the keyboard player writes all the music, literally. With the exception of the solos, he writes every damn note of everyone's parts. You be the judge as to weather that is good or bad.
7.93MB at 192kbs.

Enjoy.

Ed, you have out done yourself this time. VERY nice production. The band is equally great.

Ed, I think you need a 1.7db boost at 1100hz.

Just kiddin. Great mix as always. I rarely respond when you post a mix because they're so much better than what I can do...I just don't know what to say.

I don't like this music at all, but everything was nice & clear & sounded EXCELLENT!

Slackmaster 2000

Like Slack, there's not much I can say about the mix, it's way better than what I can do.
I just wanted to say that your server smokes, over 80K/second download speed...nice.

First impression, too much bass. AS I said a great mix is one that I want to turn up the volume. Too much bass makes me fear for my speakers, hence lower volume. Juicy, to me had a better bass balance. This aside great band, great tune great recording.

What a good sound you get! I love the sound on the organ. Who's decision was it to make the bass so bassy? Great big bass sound, but the rest of the cut is completely free of it, so there's good definition.

Tell you what, though, you're going to waste on this kind of music, and so's the band. Great mix, great musicianship, but the two cuts you MP3ed here are basically grooving and noodling. It reminds me of having this new, very fast car and only driving it in the city. Loads of talent, but what's needed is some interesting songs. The keyboard player does what he does really well, but he needs a songwriter. The song titles - juicy/full and blanket party - say it all. What's track 3 called - Jelly Sandwich? Groove Tube? Frontal Horizontal? :)

Good work, man. It's good to have a standard to compare to.

loudnaybor, educate me. I get about 5k/sec with this 56Kbps modem of mine. I'm tired of half-hour downloads, and 80K/sec sounds very nice indeed, thank you very much.

I caught your server at a somewhat more burdened moment so all that I got was 11Kbps
but it was worth waiting for.
I thought that although there were many elements of noodling and grooving, the composition went further than that. They bounced back and forth between the surreal goofiness of Jimmy Smith doing the soundtrack to an Annette Funicello beach party flick (my guess as to the source of the title) and the hard-edged seriousness of a Miles jam.
Sorry to seem as if I'm ignoring your input to this mix, Sonusman, but isn't that kind of transparence one trait of a perfect mix?
Maybe it's more related to my tastes in music, but I also liked the feel of the mix better here than in the one you posted a while back under "this one is very loud" even though I also liked that tune.

What - Beach Blanket Bingo? You mean they've got a sense of humor? Hm... I've been wrong so many times that I see no reason why I'm not wrong on this one too, but Ed said the keyboard player writes all the notes before anyone plays 'em, and that's not a Miles jam, that's total control. Mind you, you can be a control freak and have a sense of humor, too.

I think *you're* the one with the sense of humor, and you're projecting it onto the cut, but I'll listen again.

Tell you what, though. When we finally start doing some recording together, and we've got Ed at the helm, I get to give the tunes their titles. :)

That's the movie I had in mind :)
Well- I did say the the seriousness of a Miles jam, not the looseness of same. James Brown's arrangements were also highly dictatorial right down to how to strum the rhythm chords but also had this serious edge.
But you may be right about that projection.
Maybe Ed can clear this up......
This mp3 clinic is armchair quarterbacking by default.

Dobro,
Not much education required. I use our corporate internet connection, it's a DS3 line...very fast.
The bottleneck for my downloads is usually on "the other side". Most sites seem to get between 20 and 35K/sec. That's why I commented on sonusman's site, it's much faster than average. Of course I may have been the only one there at that time.

Very nice mix, but that hi-hat was killing me, way too much treble coming out of the right speaker- just at that frequency that MY ear starts to go "ouch". The snare sound is INCREDIBLE on this one- i'd love to have some details on how to get that sound.

The mix is so much better than the tune...that "each instrument do X number of repetitions, then 1/2 jam then do X reps etc." gets kinda old. I'm a bass freak, so I loved it so up front...this is not great music, but it is a really good sound thanks to the mix...gibs

woah!!!this is the mix i strive for ... the ideal mix
please tell me everything you did with this tune from recording,HDR? DAW? s/w?
fx process? each track has different reverb on its own then finalmix?
thnx
Can i have this kind of mix with my system?

The mix sounds awesome to me (I fall into the same category as Slack and LoudNaybor)... the band sounds like Medeski Martin and Wood. That's not a bad thing they just sound a lot like them. Even down to the sax wah wah? Is that what that was?

"the band sounds like Medeski Martin and Wood"- What!!! nay are you nuts??? MMW blows these guys off the face of the planet. This is more akin to smooth jazz- MMW is not in any way close to smooth jazz, the kind of shit that raidio stations that play Kenny G play. If anything these guys sound like "Rocket" era Herbie Handcock. Hmmm.. go check out "notes from the underground" or "it's a jungle in here"- you'll be happy you did. :)

James HE... I didn't mean to slander MMW... I just meant sounds to me like they've been listening to MMW. I love MMW awesome band. I guess I should've made my comment clearer.

sorry nay, I kinda flew off the handle there... I was actually thinking about "Juicy" when I posted that. I went backand listened to "Blanket Party" and yeah they defintly is a MMW influence on that track. Almost too much so.
