we don't need rest!!
I had a friend come over just recently...he recorded his acoustic and sang a vocal and he had me add the 'band' for him. This is a "vocal up" mix, intentionally, and before anyone comments...I liked the '80's...so don't go there!;) Any opinions appreciated.... I kinda liked the canned drums on this one.

the song is:
He beat him

and can be found @:

Hey mix :)

Pretty tight track you got here... Can't really fault it, technically. It's interesting how you've you've got 80's and 90's elements to it. You did a good job with the beat. I guess the only thing i can think of (i've got zilch experience in producing non-dance music btw :)) that you could add is another vocal track, doubling up the voice/harmonies etc to bring out the chorus line (it may sound good with those big tom fills?).

Were the lyrics written by your mate? They've got this respectful cheezyness to them :) His voice is engaging, it's got a strange tone to it (yeah, i know it's not the mic :)). It's like he's really *forcing* out some of those notes, pushing them up out of his chest, hehe..

You rock. Keep rocking. plur.

hey mixmkr,

nice tune and the recording sounds good for the most part...
I don't really dig that electric guitar sound you always use though...I know, I won't mention the 80's..:D.. The vocals are pretty cool, and as usual, the lyrics are cool.. We both know that your stuff sounds better than most of mine, that being said, IMOP it sounds like there is a little too much reverb on everything.... As I have heard you say before, "you really milk some decent sounds out of those same 3 chords.":D The drums sound pretty good, but they are a bit low at times... the acoustic sounds good, and the solos are pretty cool...

Overall I think it's a decent tune, and it fits well with your other tunes...

later mix, keep em comin'! :D

as good as it gets

one day, hopefully, my mixes will be as good as yours.

That polished, studio sound thsat you get just awes me most of the time.

Tha backing track you did goes very well with the music as well.

I love the singer/songwriter too. Nice voice and lyrics

mix,

80's. I'm going there. he he he he he he

You do yo thing so well. And I'm glad you have a friend. he he he

This is great. So shut up!

I like the vocal sound it´s cleaner than before, or more "in your face". I had liked some more bass (low, high level) to the exelent drumsound, love it :)

I heard some female back up singers, in fact a BIG gospelchoir in my head ;) about 02:30

I am humbled at the feet of the master

No not THAT master. :D

How does one offer advice to something like this? That was something else.

Well done.

you guys offered up some complimentory remarks...thanks very much.

but....bsabbath...so..you don't like the gtr sound..:(..I've got a song brewing where I tuned down a minor third..or so....add some ca'chunk, ca'chunk to them, add some vocal choir, and am working on a NEW sound...after twent.....(many, many) years!!....naw!! just suffer!! ha!! seriously, thanks for the listen and constructive comments...but..if you keep saying that other peoples stuff sounds better than yours, I'm gonna puke in your direction!!
and hey...if you're gonna colaborate...I can play a mean egg!!:D ..so don't count me out....( I can double on countoffs too!..and can add some MEAN tape hiss...)

Hey Mix...good tune. I really liked the "canned drums" a whole lot.
And I liked the guitar sound. In fact the entire thing sounded very polished. If I was gonna nitpick... I thought the vocals were a bit too hot compared to the rhythym track. Yes I know it's deliberately a vocal mix but I still thought the instruments needed to come up slightly. And that's being picky. Good work. :)

Hey Mixmkr...

I dig the sound ya got here...

Drums remind me of Phil Collins sound....good stuff.
I like the organ ambience as well...
Perhaps just a tad too much verb on the vox...
I would have liked to hear a vox harmony track or two
Good mix man,
Take it easy,
Joe

hey mix,

If you have any ideas about a collaboration, count me in!... Drop me a p.m. or email.. samicide@hotmail.com

I Like It!

Great song, and great fade at the end (I like the slow fade you put on this). I would have liked to hear the instruments a little more in the mix, but considering this was created as a vocal mix, that one can slide. lol

I liked the lyrics and the style they were sung, and think this tune sounded really polished. Good job!

Lt bob..tell sabbath the gtr sound is ok!! ha!....he doesn't like it:( ha!! One of my problems seems to be that I keep vocals up to loud...and I'm a guitar player too...imagine that! I just hate it when the singer says...I can't hear what I sang..etc...so I figure being such a prominant part of the song, I seem to error too much in favor of the vocalist a lot.

joro... yeah, I agree some vox harmonies would be nice. The vocals are doubled in the chorus, but subtle just for the effect. A harmony there, I would agree would be nice.

boydrj.....
slow fades rule...eh?? thanks for your complimentory comments.

Mix,
Wow cool tune.

What kind of mic and pre did you use?

Really good mix,great guitar playing.

I liked the lyrics, though they seemd rushed in some places, mabey to many words?
Just my 2 cents.

Great stuff

Best to you,
Pete

nice recording, the lead guitar sounds like Eddie Van Halens sound on his last album. That heavy chorus guitar sound.
