Village Idiot

The Love Butler
Hey Y'all:

Here is the first song with the music completed.

Nothing has been added to it yet, it is strictly the dry recorded tracks.

What I really need is some genuine feedback on the tracks so far....Any comments on how to bring out the best in these is what I am looking for, I.E: what effects you would use on what, panning suggestions, etc...etc..

Thanks for anyone who gives it a whirl and their two cents.
And since this is my actual BAND, can anyone guess which instrument I play on this track? :D

You can e-mail me at: motorcitysaints@yahoo.com

Look forward to keeping in touch wit cha!

Groovy tune man!I really like the stereo spread of the drum tracks. The only thing I can tell that needs adjusting in the mix right off the bat is the volume level of the Crashes. They seem overbearing. But the song is cool! Are you playing drums on this one?

[edit to add]I cant really think of any signal processing that would add to this song. This type of groove(70's sounding mix IMHO) tends to rely on the 'less is more" factor. But what do I know? Not a whole lot!:)

All dry, no real mix or panning............Well, I think I just been introduced to a new level of hate and envy:D. I won't be so bold as to tell you anything. Nice tracking!! I did think the mids in the drums could be crisped up. I wouldn't touch the git tone as far as effects go. It is there already. Your mix pumped enough to puff my shirt as I was listening. That was a good sign:)

I'm gonna go retire to the hole I crawled out of and rethink wether I'll ever get anywhere after hearing this display of raw tracking.

More of that GREAT DEEEEEEEEEEEEtroit sound, Bros! Add a lil verb to the overall mix and some Suthun Fry'd Lead in the in the first few bars wouldn't hurt a thing. ;) Back off those cymbals just a little.

Good Work!

Blessings!!!

Cool groove.... nice arrangement...!

Sonic observations:
- snare level relative to the hi-hat and cymbals... it's too low....
- cymbals crashes are way too dynamic
- actually overall the whole drum kit needs to be better balanced
- great hi-hat sound!

- the bass is a bit too mid-heavy and lacking in lows for my taste

- guitar tone is good!
- nice harp sound too!
- mix balance could be better defined
- it does sound as if you overused some EQ, maybe trying to brighten the overall mix, as the mix does have a harsh quality about it

Good job overall, though - I'd love to hear the finished tune!

dug it..

Blue Bear gave you the sonic scoop, so I'll just say it was a very cool jam.. I have nothing to bass this on, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that you might be playing the drums on this. I'm probably wrong, but it just seems like they come through loud and clear, except the bass drum....and the cymbals get too loud at points.... on third listen, there is not enough bass on this imop... I like the harmonica sound.. there needs to be a bit more meat in the mix...lower end on the bass. I did like it though..:)

keep posting the progress

Thanks For Your Collective Wisdom!

I believe every comment was correct after re-listening to the track a few more times....

The good news is because this is all dry seperate tracks, I can adjust all these as suggested.

Thanks again, youse guyz, I take your advice to heart.

Oh yeah..I'm the Bass Player in this band. :D

Huh??!?

You're the bass player, and you mixed the bass too low???? What's up with that...!!!?!?!?

 :p

:D :D

This really rocks, Man! I don't know how the vocals will go, but it kind of brought me back to a really cool 70's jam.

What did you record this on? You made an incredible recording, and for this being dry, it sounds great!

Great job!

pappa's got a brand new bag,....yeah

groove it on down, Idiot.

Is that a Delta Audiophile and Mackie commercial or what?.....

damn dude, you nailed the recording pretty damn good.....outside of the drum changes (cymbals and snare) that Bruce mentioned i think you are well on the right track.....

awesome.....

btw, how did you go about tracking this dude after all?......

Wow, Guyz...

You don't know how much I appreciate the feedback...

It's making my novice efforts worth the while.

Gidge..That is an Audiophile 2496 card.
We are usuing the Mackie 1604-VLZ board too.
The recording software is N-Track (!)

The drums will be tricky to navigate..

They were submixed already... :(

I'll see what I can do with them in the mix.

Thanks so much for taking the time to listeb to it, as I am writing down all input to be used on the final mixdown next week!

nice groove...the cymbals are loud

one thing that hit me weird...is that the drums are panned from right to left....like you are LOOKING at the [right handed] drummer. Not that that is bad...but I think for my entire life, I've always done the opposite...like you are sitting on the drum throne..and the floor toms are panned to the right. Kinda just hit me weird for some reason. maybe my heads been on backwards all these years!!

And your the bass player, and we can't hear ya???!!!

nice harp sound too...

keep rockin' dude.

Thanks, mixmkr...

But guess what?...

Our drummer is a lefty who happens to play a left-handed set-up kit!

They are pretty rare...

I will be "dumbing down" the crash cymbals as I go along, looks like that is a general consensus here.

Thanks for the advice!
