Hi,
I have been recording for about 8 months and currently have
a
Mac Pro
RME fireface 800
focusrite ISA220 channel strip
kind of confused about how i would implement a superior A/D converter
like a Rosetta 800. Would this be after the pre-amp and before the audio interface? or would one only be neccessary if i was mixing on an analog
console? to go bak to analog then again bak to digital

Thanks

The RME is already doing the job of converting from analog to digital. Unless you were not happy with its performance, I don't know why you would want to get another A/D converter...maybe I'm missing your point?

I believe I am missing the point as well.

Digital out of the converter (from whatever source - the preamp for example) into the digital input of the RME.

not sure you'ld be getting "that" much more from the rosetta... and i like the rosetta... i just wonder if since you want to spend some dough... can you make more improvement overall within your system by spending it elsewhere????

Personally, the only time I would even consider an A/D converter is when the rest of my chain is already top notch. The room, instruments, mics, monitors, preamps, etc.

The FF800 already has very nice A/D converters. You need to look elsewhere in your recording setup for your unhappiness. Try your material, performance, instruments, amps, mics, room.
