OK, that one came in over the transom during a search for something else. There's a lot of those on eBay it seems.

I dont think you can do syml sync recording with that machine.
You can do 4 tracks at once but That machine I think is made for quad recording and not multitracking. I would save my money for something else.

There was one that showed up in a "teac 23*" search that had simul-sync.

I'd want something with dbx.

A good way to go if your looking for 4 track that can use dbx is the 22-4 tascam. It is the upgraded version of the 2340 series. But needs an outboard unit (dx4d) to have dbx.
None of the tascams come with dbx built in till you get to the tsr8 version which was the last of the 8 track reel to reel units tascam made till the digital monkeys took over.

Outboard dbx is cool.

All this stuff takes up so much space! Between the deck, dbx, and a suitable board...

I had the 2340sx and I loved that machine. Should have never sold it.

or you can make this unsatisfied person happy again: http://cgi.ebay.com/TEAC-A-3340S-REEL-TO-REEL-DECK-PROFESSIONALLY-SERVICED_W0QQitemZ170081581436QQihZ007 , then sell those "macho 15" wheels" (holy'cow- FIFTEEN, that is... LOL  ) and the adaptors back on eBay, which will give you back up to hundred bucks or more back depending on the luck and amount of mad-hads outthere :D during the last few hours of your listings, and then use 4430x just like your 2340sx with 7" reels.
7" - is the RIGHT SIZE, btw :D

OK, I gave up trying to find out for sure whether or not you can overdub in sync with pre-recorded tracks with A-2340R model. Does any one know for sure? I am afraid Herm is correct on that one but I can't find any clearly confirming info. E-bay listings often claim that it has "Simul-Cync function", which does not mean it's true :D
Unlike A-2340 and A-2340sx models, A-2340R does not have those Simul-Sync switches (which enable tracks of record head act as play-back) and also it is called "Simul-Track", NOT! "Simul-Sync".
So?
I have no clue.
I've found this stuff on the net:
Here - short as it gets "conversation" :)
Owner of the machine at this site said - it was "modified" to do the trick
Dave said It's a "little recorder to play with" , which I would not dare call "little" and so can't disagree more :D :D :D
***********
Steve! The snow RULES! I love it and my back is killing me (it's better today than yesterday), and we got local NEWS here

Real wood panels and a metal .
Another thing I liked about that tape deck is you can adjust any drift in the tape reel right on the front of the reel hub by a screw.

:
I looked at those pics of it and without those simul-sync switches you cant record in sync with previously recorded tracks.
Also, I walked into the next room and looked at mine and the switches say Simul-Sync - NOT Simul-Track.

switches are "simul-sync"
"SIMUL-SYNC" and "SIMUL-TRACK" are "titles on the head cover
A-2340R has "title" "Simul-Track" with no "simul-sync" switches.
A-2340 and A-2340sx have title "Simul-Synch" and "simul-sync" switches.
:)

Herm , shhhhh,, you're going to drive the price up on them. :D Sounds great! I'd like to get another after I get a slew of other things fixed first.

I agree. Herm, you're going to drive prices up with your example! :D

I'm being dead serious here... but this drum recording is the most authentic thing I've heard in a long time....... and with those mics, it's amazing! The tone is outta this world!

Hey, what's even more scary is that you compressed the recording to a tinny 128kbps. Off tape it has to sound absolutely HUUUUGE!!
