Hi guys, Im currently recording using a yamaha md8, and what I wanna do is get some realistic effects like strings, horns etc. I was wondering what equipment I would need to get this. Would I need a midi keyboard and outbaord effects unit? I really have no idea so any help will be greatly apprrciated.

Thanx, Gaz.

You can go the sound module or keyboard route, many of them have horn and string patches. Just how real they sound is a matter of opinion.

For the ultimate in realism, look into Giga studio. It's a program used to play back samples libraries. Plenty of companies out there publish string and horn libraries. The libraries are usually developed by recording musicians playing the actual instruments. You load giga studio on your computer and use either your keyboard or an existing midi track as an input.

Which ever route you go, simply connect a cable from the computer or sound module line out to a line in on your recorder.

I have a MD8 in my studio but I just have it there for decor -- using the 2816.

However, I have a DX-7 synthesizer and have used that to add strings, keys, horns, bells, marimbas, steel drums, etc.

It is really the heart of my recording studio for my personal work.

I also have an 88 key Korg Stage Piano and that is also a nice package -- however, it doesn't come close to the capabilities of the synth.

So, if you play guitar or flute or therimin, you will need some type of keyboard/synth or other PC stuff to add in what you are looking for.

Have fun and play golf and then record.
