I recently found an old box of 8 track cassette tapes that was recorded from '92-'96. I forget what I used to do it and have no way of playing them back. Any help?

Try

Try Tascam 488, 488mkII, 688 Portastudios or 238 Syncaset. Likewise, Yamaha MT8X or MT8XmkII, if you swing that way. The bulk of equipment sold in this genre was Tascam,... seems the case. Yamaha was a "me-too" knockoff.;)

If I recorded it on the tascam 488 which looks familiar, will it play back on the Syncaset if I can get one of those for a reasonable price?

Well,...

The original 8 tracks remain on tape, but in playback would have to be remixed.;)

Okay...that's good to know and I kind of figured.

So I just bought the Tascam 238 but I havent set it up yet. It doesnt have mixing capabilities or does it? What would be the best way to go about getting the mixed and off these tapes to another medium so I can archive them?

What's a good mixer to get?

Would the 488 work to mix (the tape head in the one i found is broken so thats why im not using that)?
