Downlaoded some drum samples, but theyre 8 bit. So when I import them into Cubase SE 3, they sound like hammered shit. Any ideas as to how to get around this?

Use better quality samples.

LOL!!!! :)

Massive Master......so simple, so effective!!! :)

(meant that in the nicest possible way!!) :D :)

My point was that they *already* sound like "hammered sh*t" - It's not importing them into Cubase that's making them sound bad - They already sound bad.

Solution: Don't use bad-sounding samples.

Actually massive, they sound fine when played as .wav files through a media player.

An whoever anon. neg repped me? Well ya have to have some rep before you can give or take from others you ****.

So much for grunge electronica... Style is bad!!! Bad!!! Use medical grade music only...

P.S. Down with tin pan alley...

Oops. I forgot to answer your question...

What you're having is a conflict of audio bit rates / sample rates.... The cubase project might be importing your file as something it isn't (aka importing your 8-bit as 24-bit), causing much sonic mangling.

You should have an option in cubase to review the importing specs... In any case, you can try importing your file into an audio wave editor (see Adobe Audition or Audacity <free) and do a "save as" to your target format (most likely 44.1k / 24-bit)...

Thanks Peritus. Failing that, I'll put em on a CD and take a line out from my discman.

You beat me to that suggestion.. Funny part is that your cd burning software is going to do the same file conversion... Have a good one...

Though if it plays one way in say, i-tunes or wndows media player, why would it be transferred in the burning process?

Red Book Standard (the rules for normal cd mastering) call for cd's to be 44.1 khz / 16-bit...

right, so that'll sound okay on a CD, correct? Any my line-out-from-discman plan will work desite ebing labour intensive yeah?

Just use a simple audio encoder to convert the sample rate and Bit depth...There is no need to burn them to a CD.....

:)

also a good option
:)

Okay..audio encoder? Can I get one off the net for free? Sorry to be such a pain in the ass but I live and die by loops...I need this to tide me over till I can get some drums on demand or prosessions.

A good freeware audio encoder is "DBPowerAmp" do a google search 4 it and you will find it.....

Since you are just doing wav files you could also use a Video encoder like "Tmpgenc" which will handle Wav files and is also a great program for converting Video files to VCD/SVCD or DVD Format and there is a Freeware version available....

Cheers
