Thanks Ola.

Now, what about 7200 vs. 10,000 rpms? Is 10,000 overkill? too noisy? too expensive at the moment? Or are they the future of HDDs?

PS. Have you ever heard of the band "The Last Days of April" from Sweden.?

10,000 RPM drives are generally a bit noisier, but they are definately faster, and yes, they're more expensive. The thing is, you probably don't need any more speed than a 7,200 RPM drive, unless you're trying to playback 110 tracks at once (with no effects, because they'd probably choke first).

If you don't need it for other (non-recording) reasons, I wouldn't bother with it.

I use an IBM 10,000 RPM (32 gig) drive at work, and it's great for large database applications, but I think it'd be overkill for audio.

Seagate Baracuda.....

Don't be scared by it's sometimes bad history.. My brand new one is A1..... 30 Gig's...24 tracks, Lotsa Plug-in's

Had it for six months.....Not a prob yet

I would be hesitant to recommend any other drive to you for audio use...
