Curious - what mics/pres are you using for the drums, and what OH technique is in use here?

How are you micing the toms?

What kind of snare is it?

Thanks,

-Casey

Hi there, I used presonus firepod pre`s.
Mics: b52 on kick, shure sm57 on snare sm57, and sm58 on toms, and mxl 603 as OH`s.

I`m micing the toms from above, with a mic clip, will try micing em from the inside real soon, just need some more mic stands.

Its a Pearl maple snare, quite new and not mine I think it is 14. 5.5.

The Oh technique I used was the Ortf I think, I put the two 603 on a mic bar and angled the 45* in each its direction.

Allthough I`ve gone back to placing the over the kit again one over the smallest tom taking car of hi-hat and cymbal, and one on the the floor tom taking care of Ride and cymbal.

Will post a recording soon. :)

cool

I love 70s type stuff! That's all I buy now if/when I get CDs. From Rainbow to Captain Beyond to Return to Forever...it's all good.

Your stuff is great. Nice vocals. Great sound. I can comment more after I download and listen at louder volumes...

Just gotta say again that I dig this song!!!!

Listened to it one more time. Nailed the 70's thing wonderfully.

Definitely. It all fits like a glove. This song needs that sound, and that sound needs this song.

(Or something like that)

Thanks for the explanation on the drums, I was gonna point out that they sound like authentic 70s cardboard boxes. I had a Rodgers kit in the 70s that sounded JUST like that. (it was even olive drab green!) I think you have the sound pretty well nailed, except maybe a tiny bit too much on the very bottom. And I agree that the crash cymblas could come back a smidge. Other than that, it was a nice Hollies/Doors/early BOC/Three Dog Night trip, man. Very enjoyable...

I think the drums sound pretty good - maybe too much cymbal, as has been pointed out - but the sound of your drums is cool.

well thanks really glad to hear you liked it.
I`ve picked up a lot of good info here in this forum, especially on the drum forum.
A certain Tim Brown has been like a mentor to me, he`s info has been superb, along with other guys.

ps one more thing if it serves any intrests;
the drums have had no equlisation, only some heavy copression, infact no eq has been used on anything,

exept the bass guitar, wich I really boosted, mostly for hiding the fact that I cant play Bass like my hero Chriss Squire,
and that the bass i used should have been Shot and buried. :D

thanks for all the comments guys, it really overwhelming.
youre the best. :)

That's perfect, I don't think EQ's were invented yet in the 70's, so it makes it more authentic.... :) :) :)

And hey, Nakatira.

About your missing spectacles: perhaps you ate them, thinking they were a carrot?

I got it finally!! I really like this! 70s ROCK!!! Love the vocals, and well everything else. I went on to listen to..........

"Can't hear the words"....and I liked it too! At 4:00 it kicked, with the subtle drums and cymbals in background, then lead riff, BUT I wish you had taken the geetar all the way to the end and finished it out. :)

Great Job!!! :)

I grew up in the 70's. It's my kind of music. I liked it. Ditto the OH's were too loud but I like the sound. A LOT!

I listened to "Can't Hear Those Words" too. It took me back to the day. Nice job! Been a long time. Got the "munchies" just listening!

I really like the vocals too. It's a unique vocal quality that reminds me of the 70's groups. Rock On!

Well thank you, I agree on the overheads, they will come down a few notches. :)
