I am recording a demo for our band. This is what we came up with so far.

Just have a listen and tell me what you guys think!

Band is -> 2 Guitars, Bass, Drums, Vocals... so a pretty 'meat and potatoes' rock band :) webpage: http://www.5dayboon.be

Thanks!

God, this music is really cliche. It's hard for me to listen to this because it really is grating me in a bad way, but I'll try. The tempo at the beginning of Devine seems to jump around in that not good way.

Overheads need more crispness and presence, they sound really thin. Snare needs some nads... the way it is mixed sounds like the drummer was playing patty-cake with it. Definately un-rock.

Guitars are okay, but lackluster.

Bass guitar is pretty decent but needs some more high end definition.

Kick drum doesn't provide much pulse because it's too low in volume and lacks punchiness.

Vocals seem to be recorded okay.

In general this mix is like Kate Moss, sort of pretty but way, way too thin. This demo needs to eat some Weight Gain 10,000.

Sounds like Jet. Catchy stuff, but not my Cup of earl grey.
From an ameteurs view i think it is quite a good mix. Nice balance of tracks expect maybe bass guitar and kik arent loud enough.
Kings of Leon. Thats it.

Thanks for the comments... Back to the mixing board.
I'll try the suggestions given here.

The drummer actually played a '64 Ludwig drum. Which is a tad on the soft side anyway. Not your average hard hitting drumkit imo...

Thanks

The hard hitting sound comes from how its played and processed. You can do much better than what you have.

I think you are most of the way to a good product, just need to fix a few things.

However, this is NOT my type of music at all...

The word that comes to me to me is tentative.

Remember that when mixing, there are no rules.

I'd spank the overheads, kick, and bass hard with some compression.

Bring the vox up in the mix, and balance to taste.

The songs are very well performed. Just not very well recorded.

That's hillarious, man.

:)

I admit, I chuckled when I wrote that down. I have to watch myself when critiquing other people because I'm way too negative, and a huge smartass.

lol.. But nevertheless critique is always nice, as long as it's constructive :p
