Hello everybody. Last weekend a friend of mine bought a Laney VH100 head with a Laney half-stack. The amp was sounding good in the room, but the old 57 couldn´t make me happy inside the control room.
I tried several placements and none of them worked (IMHO). Then I added a ATM 25 (ninety degrees centered) and a AT 2535 (also ninety degrees centered).
Now we where talking... huge sound, with the 2535 sounding very clean and transparent, the ATM 25 adding the lows and the highs and the 57 with all the midrange necessary. Did I mentioned all the mics where around 2-3" from the grile?
I have used 57s on guitar cabs before... and I don´t remember me unhappy with the sound. What could have happened?
My signal chain was mic/tascam 2524/Korg 880 A/D (at 16/48) into Pro Tools. That was the first guitar sound I got from my studio, and I can say I´m almost familiar with the sound of the control room... I spend a lot of time in there...
thanks!
