I no longer have the basic build info up on any website but I do have an available 4-page PDF with 15 sequential photos and more related build information than I ever had on my website. ;)

Also, I have a new e-mail address on my profile.

Looks good! How many hours do you figure you have in building it, with, and without design and mistakes?

Build Time?

StevieB,
Because I was designing and building at the same time, it took quite some time in between being a husband, father, holder of jobs etc.
However, if I had the right tools, materials, paint and hardware purchased and access to the PDF build information and sequential photos that I have put together?
45 minutes or less to measure (twice) and cut the 12 pieces of wood and maybe 15 minutes more to get the angled supports cut right.
30-40 minutes to paint pieces (Dry Time is an unknown variable).
15 minute coffee break :-)
2 hours or less to drill holes and assemble Primary Frame pieces (dependent on skill, of course).
30-60 minutes to attach Desktop and Monitor Shelf.
So maybe 5 hours max?
Less if you have help.
Having a powered miter-saw or table saw to provide straight cuts would be great too!

Looks good! I wouldnt min=d takign a peep at that pdf file to see how the construction was done :P

i'm interested in seeing the pdf as well if you wouldn't mind. i need to build a smaller desk than the raxess i currently use. also what type of monitors are sitting on your krk's i've seen those somewhere else, yet never knew the brand.

TRevMFB,
The Monitors on top of the KRK's are Avantone Mix Cubes.
Avantone Audio MixCubes | Sweetwater.com
They come in passive and active formats.
Mine are passive and are powered with my trusty 16 year old Alesis RA-100 Power Amp.
In my younger days, there were monitors called Auratones that the Avantones were most likely conceptualized from.
The Auratones sounded really bad but if your mix sounded good in them, the mix would sound good on Radio which was the primary conduit for (selling) music back then.
The concept is somewhat the same with the Avantones but the Avantones sound better than the Auratones.

FYI, the monitor shelf on my desk is 6 feet long FYI and the depth of the desk is about 36 inches deep.
However, when building your own desk, you can pretty much spec it out to whatever you want dependent on the design concept.

I will PM you about the PDF.

Send it to me as well? I've been working on designing a desk of my own. I'd love to use this as a starting point, and modify it a bit to fit my needs :D

Bigger Desk Photo and Updated PDF Info FYI!

PDF INFO BELOW!

Over the course of 7 years here, I've shared all of my Low-Cost DIY Projects for free via links to my website from HomeRecording.com and many other Forums since 2005 and have received Kudos from Magazine Editors, Sound Pros, Music Product Manufacturers and Recording Folks from across the world for which I am grateful.

However, when I posted some photos and a minimal amount of build info about this specific desk, I had folks from all over the world e-mailing me about it including countless offers to purchase detailed build info and even from people asking me to build one for them! In fact I had people telling me to just publish a $10-$15 step by step eBook

Well, after twiddling my thumbs for a year or so, I finally put together build info along with 15 related color photos in a PDF format for this desk that provides a level of information that is light years beyond what I ever had on my website and am selling the Copyrighted PDF for an outrageous $5.99 with a future vision of creating, what will be a more expensive e-book for this and my other projects in the near future.

I have been sharing this cost info person by person but due to the many PMs and the high level of interest, I thought it would be best to share that info here.

If you are still interested in obtaining a PDF copy in light of this info, please PM or E-Mail me so we can discuss off-line

I like the monitor shelf. I might build one of those to add to my desk. Good luck selling your PDF -

$5.99 is a psychologically more attractive price that $6.00 (or so they tell me :p )

IMO, selling the PDF is justified, if the product is complete- everything one would need to know to build that desk- I am talking working plans (scalable would be nice,) photos, materials list, sources for materials and parts that are difficult to find, etc.

When you consider you are buying someones experience who has worked out every detail, $5.99 is nothing - especially when it will probably save you several hours work!

I think its time to just upload this PDF and have it accessible to everyone. It's a damn good looking design, and you're gonna get SWARMED with requests!

Thanks, Bryan!
It was on my original homestudioguy.com website for 2 years for all to see for free.
I actually received photos from folks from all over showing me their desks based on this design.
In fact, the last photo I got was from a London Police Officer showing me his desk build!

I'm an engineer by trade. If you need any CAD drawn blueprints, for dimensioning and bill of materials, and efficiency of material use and cuts, I'd be happy to do them. I could convert the files to PDF, and you'd be able to drop them right in.
