48khz, 96khz?

hey guys...

i know i've been asking lotta things about the presonus firestation... my final question for this is..

firestation can record up to 48khz... while other firewire equipment such as motu 828 can be up to 96khz....

does it make alot of difference in the recording?

it doubles the resolution so its gonna make a subtle difference.....to most, its not worth the fact that it doubles the resources needed to support it......
 
when 96khz is well supported by the sound card, sequencer, and plug-ins then i'll start thinking about upgrading.
 
so unless i have a great equipment overall, it won't make too much difference?..

thanks... i was wondering whether i should exchange mine with teh motu...

it isn't already? well i did have problems with 96khz with my delta...but sequencers? they were doing 192khz like last year, plug-ins as well have been 96khz for some time
 
It takes alot of disk space to run at 96k. The biggest benefits are better top end and better stereo imaging (in the top end). This is mainly the result of less steep antialiasing filters on the DSPs. You need a good signal path/microphones to really hear the difference.

Some DVD audio is at 96khz. Listen to that.

Personally changing the word size from 16 to 24 bits does more for me.
 
I tried recording in 96Khz with my Motu and it handled very well, but most of my processors are 48Khz so I had to come down to 48 to make everything even.
