no, i read the posts between studiodrum and A Reel Person and found them to relevant to my situation, so i hijacked the thread....

Yes, but unfortunately,...

I've not had time to consider all the details in his post, and so I'm not able to provide a specific answer, as of yet. ;) As with most of studiodrum's questions, a lot of your issues are in the specific configurations and aim of each session, which is always different from one to the other.;)

Fred Jacker?

Reel Dave, don't sweat it too much. Any insight is welcomed, but mostly I feel like it's trial and error...i've just been running each instrument live and direct (using the stereo adapter to bring in the drums from the mixer) and panning the guitars and bass to the sides. it sounds ok. i can live with everything except the drum sound which is poor, so I've been searching around the forum and on the web to get some ideas on how to best mic and EQ them. I'm using two Audio Technica condensers, one on the bass drum and one overhead, and a Shure57 on the snare/hi-hat. everything sounds a little "tight" and I wish there was more of an open room sound. If you ever listen to recording engineer Steve Albini's band Shellac, this is what I would love the drums to sound like. But we have a tight practice space and it's hard to do much except close mic to avoid picking up a ton of bleed from the other instruments.

i'll try to post an MP3 of one of our songs so you can hear the recording and rip it apart :D
