I did a little personal mic shoot-out (only on the lead vocal) with the few condenser mic's i've got. This is a little different than the other mic shoot-outs i've seen (usually these are only one vocal or instrument with no background music) as i ONLY swapped out the LEAD VOCAL mic track while the rest clip is done with various mics. Each of these are only 43 second segments of the same some i'm working on. It's interesting to do this as i've never really done something along these lines before, so to set you up, I recorded these 4 mics into my Presonus Firebox, into Cubase LE with the same compression and ambiance effect on everything. I didn't touch EQ on any of the vocal tracks, so this is the way it sounds through my system. Keep in mind this is far from perfect (some volumes need to be adjusted) and this is a totally rough mix anyway.

Take from this what you will. I just thought some of you might find this interesting...I know i did.

In order from cheapest to most expensive...

Naiant X-T $49 (Omni Directional mic):

This isn't exactly fair because i don't think this supposed to really used as a vocal mic, but i couldn't resist trying it since i was running through the other few mics. http://www.naiant.com/xtspecification.html

Studio Projects B1 $99 (Large-diaphragm Cardioid Condenser):

This is typically what i've been using to record acoustic guitar (all of our album "Nooner" was done with this mic for guitars), but got better results than what i thought I'd get. http://studioprojects.com/b1.html

Studio Projects C1 $199:

I was using this typically for recording vocals (all of our album "Nooner" was done with this mic for vocals) so it's interesting to see it up against the others. http://studioprojects.com/c1.html

Shure KSM32 $549 (i bought on ebay for $250):

This is my newest purchase, so this is why i really ran this test to see how it stacked up against the other mics. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/KSM32/SL/
