My TASCAM 2488 is dying. I can see the end coming soon. :(

What I've done until now is record everything on the TASCAM and then bring all my tracks into the PC and mix them in REAPER.

Now (soon) I need an interface. What's the easiest way to record 4 simultaneous tracks into my PC?. I was looking at the M-Audio 4x4, but I can't figure out why they call it "4x4". From what I can see, it only has 2 ins, no?

What do you all use????

They might be including the SPDIF in and the midi in.

Maybe the fasttrack ultra would do the job or possibly a presonus firestudio mobile.

The presonus is firewire, if you chose something firewire make sure you have a TI (texas instrumets) firewire chipset, otherwise you could be in a world of pain.

What are you connecting? All mics? Make sure you have enough channels with pre amps and phantom power if you need it.

Thanx Tetra. The most I'll ever record at one time is my drums, which takes 2 condensors and 2 dynamics, so I'll need phantom on 2 channels. I think I'd prefer a USB connection, just because it seems easier and simpler (easy and simple works for me :) )

The Fast Track Pro isn't too expensive, so I wonder if I can hook 2 up? If so, that might be the route I'll take.

EDIT: Just went and looked at the ULTRA. That's exactly what I need. Thanx, man.

Take a look at the ZOOM R16...it'll do 8x8, as well as work as a standalone recorder. You can transfer files via USB or SD card if you want to replicate your 2488 ---> Reaper methodolgy .

Yes, that's what I'm debating. I like and I'm used to recording on a standalone, but I'm not using any of it's features other than to record on it and then transfer to REAPER. It's also nice to know that, even if my computer dies or needs repair, I can still record.

Tough choice.
