Can anyone tell me the difference between the following eq's ?
1. Parametric EQ
2.Graphic EQ
3. Paragraphic EQ
4. REQ

THanks

Parametric EQ: 'true' equalizing: per available band you have three controls: a gain control (+/-), a frequency control and a 'Q' control. The gain controls how much you're gonna boost or cut the frequency you've chosen with the frequency control, and the 'Q' determines the bandwith of the applied gain.

In human language:
- a gain control is simple, it's a volume. You can add or remove volume from the signal you're applying EQ to.
- the frequency control is where on the signal (in Hertz) you're gonna apply this boost or cut to (a simple demo of what this is: a wah-wah pedal is actually an EQ with the gain maxxed out, the pot you're moving with your foot is actually a frequency control).
- the Q determines how precise or how non-precise your adjustment is gonna be. Cut or boost can be applied to a few frequencies (narrow Q) or to several octaves of frequencies (wide Q)

2. A graphic EQ is a little different. It's actually a lot of parametric EQ's together but with fixed frequencies and Q's. the only thing you can control is the gain applied to each frequency band. P.A. systems often use this kind of equalising because you have a visual overview of the frequency spectrum.

3. Paragraphic EQ is something in between a parametric and a graphic EQ: you often have control over the gain as well as the frequency controls but not (or very limited) over the Q. My bass amp (SWR SM-400s) for example has faders like a graphic EQ for the gain controls but underneath each fader there's a rotary control for the frequency.

4. REQ is unknown to me, I'm guessing it's the Renaissance EQ plugin by Waves ???

Hope this helps,
Herwig

thanks for helping me deadpoet.

Indeed, the last one is a wave eq.
