These are so cool. I miss mine. especially since new 1 inch tape is $130 a reel.:D

Yeeeeeeeehhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Alright! Thanks Reel Dave! Still haven't received it but, I guess I'll have to cherish and pet my Tascam 238/488/488mkII/244/144/424mkII/424mkIII/PortaOne's until it comes in!!!! Thanks again. Can't wait to get started on it. There's a place by my house (probably the only place IN orlando that sells cassettes (bulk only) and 1/4" tape) They only have Ampex 407 and 3M 996. Does anyone know ANYTHING about this tape? (If the Bias was set?) Could it be used on the 388 Or Fostex R8??? Thanks, Aaron

I wouldn't use either on the 388 / R8. The Ampex 407 may likely be dated prior to '94 / '95 and is risky to use and 996 is just too heavy / thick a tape to use on a small footprint transport. You will wear out the motors at minimum.

Reel,
From reading the title to this post, I thought you'd taken up 8-tracking AA meetings or something.

Question:

Do you guys think metal reels would be too much weight for the transport??
