Hi, I wanted to know how to bypass the mic pres on my 388 so that I can use my aphex 207 instead. If I connect staright into the line in, doesnt that just go through the consoles preamp and eq as normal? is there a way I can get in the chain after the 388 pres but before the eq? If anyone knows what I can do here, please throw up a reply. Thanks.

You can't bypass the entire channel strip but, by going into the "receive" half of the insert patch point, you can at least bypass the mic pre's and possibly the eq stage depending on how it is wired.

Having the owner's manual with it's corresponding flow diagram would answer that part of the question more concretely.

Are you not enjoying the sound of the built in pre's on the Studio8 or is this more of an experiment?

Cheers! :)

yeah, I like how the 388 pres sound alright but I just assume that a unit like the 207 would be an improvement and make a little more headroom. Plus the 207 has phantom power and it'd be kinda pointless to run the 207 into the 388's preamps, thats too much preamp! Am I wrong in my thought pattern here?

The 388's 1/4" Unbalanced LINE IN's bypass the preamps.

;)

Reel, well thats nice to know! Thanks, I read somewhere that most consoles line in inputs dont actually bypass the preamp but rather just stick a pad in front of it to lower the signal. But now this should be no problem at all. I'd like to see how this aphex 207 sounds and as soon as I have some time I'm going to throw down a few demos with it. Any of you guys use it before? What did you think? Thanks again reel.
