$300 won't get you many options in a new guitar. Your best one possibly being a Carvin assemble-it-youself hard tail Strat copy for under $350 ($338 if live outside California). Just sand, finish (electronics are assembled) and away you go. Here's the direct link for you.

In a used model you could get a decent guitar. Ibanez copies of Fenders and Gibsons from the late 70's and early 80's are steals. The Yen exchange rate back then allowed for good quality for little price. Since you got a Strat, I'd go for a Tele. I've noticed on a crowded stage that my Tele - an used American Chandler I scored for $150 - cuts through the noise, whereas the Strat gets lost among all the other instruments. If you get a Tele you might discover, like I have, that musicians you play with would wish you'd just lose the Strat - something I'm not about to do since I like Strats too much. BTW, Ibananez's lawsuit Tele from the 70's can be had for around $300 on Ebay. I owned one which was stolen - a loss still mourned.
