2488 & Economics

Just a question for debate...

Do you think that the emergence of the 2488 offering 24 tracks of 24/44.1 digital audio in a portable case for under $1,200 will force a drop in price of other digital multitrack machines? Which if any? How much? How soon?

From what I've read, the 2488 is a nice SIAB; however, I don't dig the "small" viewscreen. I have a much larger viewscreen on my Yam 2816.

Seems as if Alesis likes to put ridiculous viewscreens on their stage pianos/synths but that's another question.

As for pricing, it's probably "somewhat" controlled by the makers of the units. Usually, the lower the price, the less you get.

Ever wonder why the cell phone companies ALL have this basic price of 39.99? Seems strange to me.

I haven't heard the sound quality of the 2488 but those who have posted seem to love the unit.

My personal opinion, the SIABs could be make MUCH easier to get around and I think they will soon.

That's exactly what I mean. Do you think Tascam pricing this unit the way they have will force competitors to lower their prices to keep active in the market? There seem to be some units that now offer less and cost more.

I've only heard good reviews of the 2488 as well. (I'm actually buying one soon.) If the 2488 was a stinker i wouldn't imagine it having a lot of impact but if the quality is as advertised and as reviewed then maybe some prices may drop.

I think Roland/Boss ought to look hard at their pricing.

I should get my 2488 by next Thursday......can't wait.
