I have been trying to get an order together for the Dorsey mod and have a few questions.

Is this the best mod for the mics. (the one from recording mag)

Dose anybody have an updated Digi-Key part number list. I could not find some parts on the digi-key site.

Dose Scott still sell the Toshiba 2SK170BL or dose someone have another source for them.

Yes, this is still an excellent mod. I'm not aware of any other mods that are significantly different. I didn't have any trouble getting parts from Digikey when I shopped for them two months ago. Scott does still have some of the Toshiba FETs. But there are other sources as well.

Here are some sites where you can look for the various parts that go into Scott's mod. Be careful to make sure that the parts that you select will actually fit physically. Especially the electrolytic capacitors.

flatpicker did some mics for me (excellent job by the way ) and he used some different stuff. PM him, he'll tell ya all about it

I've heard about the Dorsey mod, but I don't really understand what it is supposed to do. If someone's got a couple of minutes, will you explain it for me? (Or post a link to a good explanation?)

Thanks.

Basically, it is an upgrading with better quality parts.

The "real" mod would be converting the darn thing into a tube. Although much more expensive and involving, it is much more rewarding. Naturally, you will get completely different sound.

Flatpicker's mods are basically the same as Scott's. He uses some slightly different capacitors (different materials, same values) in a couple of cases, but it's pretty much the same thing. If you want someone else to do it for you, he'd be a good choice. If you want to do it yourself, you won't go wrong by following Scott's article.
