$200 Bass

LOGIC ABUSER
I need to add a Bass to my arsenal. Ive been seeing quite a few basses at Guitar Center in the $200-300 range. Would a bass such as this be sufficient. If so, what is a descent one do get as Im not a bass guy, or I should say I dont know what manufacturer is better than the next. Just want to get my moneys worth on a tight budget. I was eyeballin a Fender.
 
Yamaha,Fender,Peavey,Ibanez.....

Yamaha has real decent ones for around $200......
 
I bought a Peavey Milestone III for $189.00 w/gigbag
It has 2 pickups and does the job for recording. At least I get a variety of tones.
If you were willing to take a step up to around $275.00 the world opens up considerably, and there are some really decent basses out there, alot of which have been mentioned.
 
I heard that Essex basses are really good for the prices.
 
I got a bottom of the line Spector for $350 last year and it kicks ass. At least its plenty sufficient for me. I wanted a bass and I got it after hearing an amazing player getting awesome sounds out of it in the store. So I figure that the bass has more potential than I do. lol.

Go to talkbass.com and do a search on the Essex. Many, many satisified customers, and a P-bass starts at $100. J-basses start at $120. I'll be getting one just for fun.

My Essex J-bass arrived yesterday. I like it. Great bass for $119.
I think I'll pick up a telecaster or les paul copy from them also. Normally I don't play those types of guitars, but they are so cheap (low cost :) ), they'd be fun to have and play around with.

I like the Essex over the really cheap fenders. The OLP I tried was nice too.
 
I Played a cheap Ibanez $200 to $300 dollar range, that a guy brought by a while back. I was amazed at the tone and playability. I was putting it threw a old peavey tube guitar amp with two 12's and it still sounded awsome.

It made me feel bad, Here I've got a gibson bass that cost me $450.00 used on sale and this cheap Ibanez just kicked it's ass.
Unbalievable sound. that Boingy hi mid sound with out the clicks and string noise .

I've got to get me one of those.

I own one and at $139, it was a great value.
 
P-BASS!!!

be it a fender, a squire, or one of those deluxe fender ones with the j-pickup at the bridge...they are nnniiccceee.....they arent light, they arent thin, they feel like a big beefy peice of wood in your hands *thats fun to say* im very picky about basses. Ive played just about every bass in my local guitar center, and the only ones i can tolerate are fenders, mostly the p-bass *in the price range you are talking about* ive played some short scale grieschs and epys and they suck. ive played some waricks that are like 800 bucks and they suck. ive played yamahas and ibanzes, sure they sound nice, but they feel wrong, oh so wrong....

the only one ive found that i like more than my p-bass would be a music man stingray...but its 1500, i need to get a job :D and get one soon

I second the Yamaha Basses or even the specters. I would try to find a used one with active pickups for around 200.00 I feel that most NEW basses in this price range may dissappoint you in the long run. I say go for a used nicer one for 200.00.

I guess I have to second Ibanez basses.

I have one and it sounds and plays very good for a used $300 5-string.

However, it isn't the best for my slapping style. Also, I don't want 5 strings. Eh. I'll probably stick with it...
 
I found a Yamaha RBX 550 for $175 and love it , I use the J-Station and it sounds great , I had to find flatwound strings though because those roundwounds were making hamburger out of my pussy guitar player fingers
 
i might have to try flatwounds....maybe thats why my fingers have rock hard junks o' skin on the end of 'em...

Flat wound string hold thier tone for about a half an hour.. in short keep the skin, that's what it's all about:D

Gee I've had mine on for at least 40 minutes and they still sound good , maybe it's just a fluke
