Okay,... I 'was' going to buying these speakers in a few months time... So, I did a double check with the pro's over at www.gearslutz.com

All those speakers have had from them is a slating.

Are they really that bad? I'll be stepping up from some Spirit Absolute Zero's - how much of a change will I see?

Cheers

I find them a very forgiving speaker - meaning they don't always reveal flaws in the sound, especially in the mids... so for that reason, they are probably looked down upon by some engineers.

Once you're aware of the shortcomings, they are certainly very usable! And they don't hurt your ears the way NS-10s do!

*Feeling Better*

Cheers Bear, I was worried for a while. The 20/20bas are at a great price at the moment, I was hoping to save money by buying them instead of the Mackies or the Gen 1030's...

The mackies are probably better, but i think that the difference in money could be spent improving the rest of the setup.

You could do worse

Blue Bear gave a good evaluation.
I've got a pair in my project studio and they'll do for the level I'm at.
My only complaint, aside from having to get used to them in order to avoid the shortcomings you've read of here and on other forums, is that the tweeters blew out when a pro friend came over to pink noise the room, and it was a bit of a runaround to get them replaced.
(In fairness, the runaround was no fault of Event...they don't want to do direct sales, and wanted me to go through a certain chain...and...well, I won't bore you with the details except to say that Event came through for me)
