2 LCD Monitors

i've visited some members of the BBS websites, and this one dude had 2 LCD monitors hooked up to his computer for pro tools... one monitor showed the edit window, and one shoed the mix window, does anyone know how this was achieved... i would love to have a set up like that... thanks
 
buy a dual head video card. it's usually one with a VGA input and one with a DVI input. These cards will usually be 128MB or more...so don't look at the 32 or 64 ones. Then, depending on the connections of the monitors, you'll need an adapter for one of the ports. For example, if both monitors have a VGA cable end you'll need to get a VGA-->DVI adapter for one of them. :cool:
 
Be aware that there are different DVI formats, and one of them, DVI-D (I think), is not capable of being converted to analog.
 
You might want to check out reviews on the hardware sites, like:

www.tomshardware.com and www.anandtech.com

Both ATI and nVidia make great video cards, with some models supporting dual monitor. And you'll save some $$$ if you buy the second latest model as all the very newest ones command the highest premiums.
 
I went to the local computer shop and for a dvi to vga connector it was $30 dollars! I thought that was pretty steap.

utter rubbish!!!

one of the most used video cards in the music industry is the Matrox G450 Dual head. It's a 32Mb card. You don't need a fancy 3D heat producing (fan assisted noise polluting) video card for your DAW. A good quality 2D card like the above mentioned Matrox will serve your purposes gracefully. I use one in my P4 3Ghz DAW with no flaws what so ever.

yeah, you overpaid. good site to find the cheapest computer equipment out there is pricewatch.com

and yes, i speak rubbish a lot. however, i said I USUALLY see them on cards with more memory. that's just my shopping experience...sorry that i gave you wrong info. props to LemonTree for proving me wrong. :cool:
