I recently got an 1880.I love it,but,I feel that the loss of single tracks<it has 6 as compared to the 1680's 8 ,is a big sacrifice when it comes to total control over the tracks.has anyone out there had a1680 and now has an 1880 that could tell me what they feel about this issue. I do love this machine though!

Pardon me, I haven't had one or the other, but would like to.
I have a related rabbit trail
You sound like you could answer the question: What actually comes on the 1680 "stock", the 1880 as well. All the info I've read talks about what they are "expandable" to.

It isn't a hassle is it? You still can control the stereo track individually.
You have to go to the track page you know with the eq and everything, and turn off the button that joins the 2 in tandem. (Mental block on the name, not near my machine). Then you just hold the track button and shift to change between tracks.

I have a 1680, and I HATE the shared faders!

You CAN control the tracks seperately by pressing shift and all that, but it's still nowhere near as easy as just having the single faders. I don't know why Roland decided to cut corners here.

On the other hand, if you have a lot of STEREO tracks, then the paired faders make things easier to deal with.

hey, thanks for your response. I am quite happy with my new machine .I found that the paired tracks are not that hard to deal with.plus the sound quality is much better than my old 880ex.I never new what I was missing .......only now ,YAMAHA is coming out with a new 16track shipping in july,it looks awesome!I'm not to sure about the effects though .I feel the cosm amps are a big plus to the roland products............
what to do what to do ..........

They did the stereo thing because of size, and because nowadays unless your a guitar player only, and don't play any midi, or acoustic...(I record my acoustic guitar in stereo) then it makes sense really. I know I wish I had more stereo channels on my live board as well.
