Loving my new (used) Premier kit - it came with 10" and 12" rack toms and a 14" floor tom. When tuned properly, they sound great and have a lower pitch than I expected, but nevertheless, I figured I needed a bigger floor tom, even though I probably didn't.

Started combing ebay, and before you know it, a 16" "rack/floor" tom came up that pretty much matched my kit - sweet! - it arrived today, and it really does match - the premier logo is flush to the wood on the 16", and the other logos stick out like 3mm on the existing set, but other than that: wood/color/finish/hoops/hardware, exact match!!! :D

But here's where it gets weird - I could see in the ebay pic that the 16" was really a rack tom, not a floor tom, and now that I've got it, yes, it's got one mounting bracket-thing, rather than the three you'd expect for holding floor tom legs.

My 14" is just a floor tom - no bracket for a rack. So I'm thinkin... Should I drill holes in both toms and exchange the mounting hardware so that the 16" will have legs, and then I can figure out how to mount the 14"? Should I look for similar leg brackets and just drill on the 16", and then have 2 floor toms? Should I mount the 16" and stop worrying about it? It just seems weird to have a rack tom that's bigger than your floor tom.

How deep is the 14?

I'd say make em both floor toms.

But instead of drilling the 16, see if you can find an arm attachment so you can mount the 16 on a stand - like a fusion kit - but still have it at floor tom height.

Yeah, this is how I have my set up. I play a 6 piece kit with 10" and 12" on a rack and 14" and 16" floor toms on a bracket mounted to a very heavy cymbal stand. Since I had my
floor toms made shallow, there is no problem of balance and it gives me the freedom to adjust them and situate them to a more comfortable placement than if they were on legs.

both the 16 and the 14 are the same depth - 14 inches, I think. Right now I have the 16 on a heavy cymbal stand with a mount that doesn't really fit - I'll try and find one of those attachment things or maybe a better mount. The kit looks a lot cooler with the extra tom - now I just need to be able to play them all :)
