Finding a firewire audio interface for CEP

Hi, I'm looking to upgrade to a firewire connection between my mixer and computer. The set up I use now is 1/4" stereo outs (from the mixer) adapted down to a 1/8" stereo line-in to my PC. I only record one track at a time, so my ideal piece of equipment would just be a box that converts a...

    getting ready for recording

My questions: 1. which mic(s) to use - from limited Shure selection 2. how should I mix / pan a acoustic guitar / ac. bass / wood conga - vocals will be done later 3. how should I EQ on the mixer? I have heard of recording flat, then EQ'ing the whole mix later, but I think that a little...

nanocomp better than art tube mic pre?

ok this is long, but the gist of it is, when i put my art tube mic pre b/t my shure sm-58 and my pc i get a very low signal/noise ratio, but when i replace it with my nanocomp - even though i'm not compressing anything, I get a nice clean sound when i record. here's the art mic pre set up...

cool edit rec out of synch with playback

as the subject says, the recording that i make with just a simple computer mic, ends up being out of synch with the test drum loop at around 17 seconds. its like the playback and recording are going at two different speeds. To test it, i played back a drum loop, recorded the drum loop through...

    CE 96 skips while recording

Here's the situation: Two instances of CE are open, one playing a music track, the other recording the vocals - to be later inserted. Sometimes the playback skips, or gets stuck and repeats a small section while recording, which in turn, leaves gaps in the vocal recording. Has anyone else...

    simple mastering question....

Maybe this should go in the 'newbies' section...anyhoo, can mastering be done simply from a CD? Originally, I thought that you would need DAT, ADAT, etc. so that the mastering party could reach each individual track. But it was never made clear to me, thanks.

music to the ears of the drummer....

Ok here's the deal, my band is recording live drums to four track (through a mixer - the brand or type for any of these is unimportant) The big question is, is how we give the drummer something to drum to, while we only want the drum mics to pick up the drums. Since time and money is limited...
