acoustic, emo, viagra, lower mortgage, consolidate your bills, loan approval

Sounds pretty good to me. Smooth and intimiate. Vocals might be a teensy bit dark, and the "eff" plosives are a bit... plosive. The line "makes me feel..." makes me cringe every song I hear it in.

    joseph and the mixing factory

And while I'm still around, I may as well post the link to the most recent (and hopefully best) mix. http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/90806_november5.mp3

    joseph and the mixing factory

Just so everyone knows, the bass is stand-up with a bow, and I'm having a hell of a god-damn time getting it to cut through freaking distorted guitars and drums and voice. It's been put through a shameful amount of EQ, and a 'lil bit of compression (mostly at the tracking stage--an RNC--plus...

    joseph and the mixing factory

the first song i've ever had complete control over at every stage of creation. writing -> tracking -> mixing -> sort of mastering let me know what you think? harsh criticism is absolutely welcome. the song is known 'round these parts as "november."...

Most versatile AND\OR brutal guitar amplifier

I completely agree. I own one, and you can do about ten million different things with it. And then you can retube it. You can't get "the" Marshall sound, or "the" Fender sound, but you can certainly get "the" Mesa sound and a crapload of variations. Who knows, maybe you can get the Marshall...

    F#7 vs. Gb7

They should be the same chord, both having (in flats) Gb Bb Db E or (in sharps) F# A# C# E. Notes are flatted or sharped based on the nature of the key signature; flat keys have flats and sharp keys have sharps. I think. Bye bye.

    Event SP-8 vs Mackie HR824

I've heard the Events and the Mackies compared a lot, but I haven't heard a definitive (or even vague, really) statement of superiority from anyone I'd trust. Has anyone around here tried/used either or both of these monitors, and can they testify to their strengths and weaknesses? I'm leaning...

    Magnum Opus

I'm almost done with my latest goal: a strings and vocals song. Lots of strings. Orchestration style of George Martin imitated, albeit badly. Care to critique? It's called "Yay" so far. The melody will be vocals one day, but midi vocals are too terrible to subject anyone to. I haven't even...

    Onyx Clock

So I have a 002 and I'm thinking about buying a Mackie Onyx 800r for pretty drum magic. Should I use the 002 as the master clock, or the Mackie?

Question about various home recording programs

MP3 Conversion Etree.org puts out a great, free MP3 conversion program called CDEX. It does a nice job. Goodbye.

    Pop song sort of...

Good god, that's polished. I can hear the For No One bit too, at the beginning, except For No One makes me want to cry, and this song makes me want to shuffle through my refrigerator. I agree with DonF about the ride hits, and with everyone about the compression. I like the melody a lot when...

    First Drum Mix Ever

So I've just recently bought a lot of new equipment, and I tried most of it out yesterday for the first time. I bought the stuff to be able to record drums myself. Let me know how I've done? Mics: AKG D112 on the bass drum AKG C460B on the hi-hat Josephson C42s as overheads Sennheiser MD421...

Composing With the Circle of 5ths?

Plenty of neat songs use a circle of fifths chord progression. Its parallelism is driving and cool. Hey Joe, by Jimi Hendrix, and The Time Warp ala Rocky Horror both follow a circle of fifths pattern, all of the chords being major (like how we use it for key-finding). bye bye

Smallish Amp for recording metal and other

I have a Mesa Boogie Mark IV with a Rectifier 1x12 that I use for recording and I love it. Can't quite get that Fender Blackface clean, and it won't do that Marshall crunch, but it's wonderful for everything inbetween. Plus, you can switch out the standard 6L6s for EL34s, which I haven't done...

    A String Quartet

Does no one care about or record music meant for string ensembles these days?

    A String Quartet

I'm hoping to record some string quartet stuff this summer (for myself, not for a client) and I don't have a particularly good setup for ensemble recording. Nor do I think I can even convince a string quartet to get together, learn my stuff, and play it as an ensemble. I can probably manage...

    Best processor for Polka?

meep AMD and Intel processors are not versatile enough to handle anything but 4/4 time. Therefore I would recommend finding an old laptop based on the Transmeta Crusoe processor. This processor will listen to your playing and adapt its internal clock to what science professors term "a waltz,"...
