    Synth 101?

Here is the link you want: http://beast.gtk.org/links-synthesis.html The SOS synth school articles are indespensible-- Better than anything else I've found on the subject and I've done quite a bit of searching.

Which mic would serve an common for Violin, flute, Guitar and Cello

a pair of sp c4's would get the job done, or if you can swing it a pair of at4040's for around $500 would be an even better choice.

different question about the Shure SM-57

Yes. The Nady cm-88 is a condenser microphone, whereas the sm-57 is a dynamic mic. A decent dynamic mic will almost always work better on very loud sources than a condenser, especially a cheap one like a nady.

No one makes what i need :(

Yeah, and while they're at it there are some other things it would be cool to be able to buy as a package deal. Like, why can't I just buy a house, car, dog, and wife all at once in one package. I waste so much time choosing a seperate house and car and dating is just a pain in the ass. It would...

The Plug-In You Can't Live Without

AC is soooo old school. The new rage in all the big studios is to run everything off of batteries. Mmmmm.... clean power for all of your DC hungry analogue gear.

Just got a set of bx8's

I just can't express how happy I am with my purchase. It took me a long time to finally decide on a set of monitors. I read so many reviews, spent some time auditioning them, changed my mind several times, but I finally went with the m-audio bx8's. (Partially because I could get them cheap from...

    Aardvark Q10 vs. MOTU 828mkII

The motu 828mkII definitely has the better quality converters, but it also has the most compatitblity issues. If you are using a mac, I'd say go for the motu, no question. But if you are running windows you might want to do some research first. Last I heard, motu still hadn't released a good...

    Aardvark q10 Vs Delta1010

If the delta1010 is working for you then I wouldn't switch. The difference in quality of the converters between both units is probably negligable. The Q10 does have more compatiblity issues, but it's not nearly as bad as something like a motu. I would lean towards m-audio in the long run. I own...

Thinking of building a Drum Box, suggestions?

Jesus man! I'll trade you spaces. What don't you like about your big room with wooden floors and high cielings? That's every home recordists wet dream! While we're all stuck here in our little drywall and carpet cubes, you've got this big room that could probably be made to sound great and you...

Avril Lavigne "Im With You" kick drum???

I'll have to back up chessrock and light on this one. I just listened to the track and it definitely sounds like a sample. In fact the whole kit seems sample replaced, maybe not entirely replaced, but there are at least samples underneath them, which is a VERY common practice in pop music. The...

ZVEX Pedals - what do you think?

Man I want one of those seek trem and seek wah pedals sooooo bad, but they are crazy expensive, even for botique stuff. The fuzz factory is probably the ultimate fuzz pedal. If I it was the only fuzz pedal I was ever allowed to use, I don't think I'd be upset. Given how many botique pedal makers...

    Ultra-low watt tube amplifiers

I don't know what your price range is, but check out the microbaby by emerysound. It's exactly what you need. http://www.emerysound.com Or you could just get a power soaker like a thd hotplate. http://www.thdamps.com/products/hotplate.htm Edit: I missed the part about traveling and staying...

    searching for a good pre-amp

I see that you are also looking at the chandler tg2. I can't believe that nobody else has backed up that choice. The chandler pres are amazing! Maybe not as versatile as a great rever me1nv, but bang for buck wise the chandler units are just stunning. Probably the best electric guitar pre ever...

what do i need for the digidesign control 24?

The control 24 is just a control surface for protools. You'd still need a digidesign core HD card for your computer, and then some AD/DA converters. The digidesign converters are not all that great though. I'd spend a few extra bones and get two apogee rosettas. However, if you are on a budget...

    different guitars......same track

I can't think of a recent rock abum that doesn't use a multitude of guitars and amplifiers on the same songs.

Live setup question - 2 mixers??

Should work okay. You will be degrading the audio slightly, but I don't think it will matter much for a live situation. I've done a submix of drums on another mixer and bounced it into two tracks on the main mixer before, no problems.
